Welcome Fall by Extending Your Patio Season!
Have you noticed the chill in the air? This week, we'll officially say good-bye to Summer, and hello to Fall! Personally, Fall is my favorite season of the year. As soon as the first leaf falls, you'll find me adding decorative Fall touches around my home. But if you're one of those Summer-Lovers who hates to see the seasons change, don't despair! While you can't make Summer last longer, the good news is that, with a few adjustments, you can extend your patio season well into Fall! Here's a few things you can do to welcome Fall with a smile!
1. Change your patio furniture arrangement.
While Fall can't compete with Summer for sun-bathing or pool parties, it has its own set of advantages - like cooler air and beautiful garden colors - that can often be better enjoyed by changing up your patio arrangement.
For example, one of the first things I do in early Fall is to store our patio loungers. I swap them with our set of wooden rockers or adirondak (a.k.a. muskoka) chairs. This arrangement is better suited to the way we use our patio in the Fall. You won't find us lazing in the sun when the temperatures drop, but we still love to have a spot to sit outside and enjoy the fresh Fall air with a cup of something warm. I've always thought that a hammock would also be a lovely way to spend a Fall weekend afternoon!
No more worries about how you will pack your hammock. Stuff it in the attached sack and bring it with you anywhere, it even fits under the seat in your car. Made from 100% nylon with triple stitching, these double parachute nylon hammocks are a hiker's dream. Lightweight, quick drying and portable.
The Bear Chair Tete-a-tete was inspired by the Original Bear Chair designed 20 years ago. This comfortable cedar two-seater has become a classic with no equal. With the comfort of the original Bear Chair and the convenience of two chairs a table and a shelf there is no doubt this will make an awesome addition to your deck patio balcony or dock.
2. Create some 'Fall ambience '.
Once you've arranged a cozy sitting area to enjoy the Fall weather, the next thing you should think about is creating some Fall ambience. I love the idea of using outdoor lanterns (with battey-operated candles) or an outdoor fireplace in Fall. There's just something magical about flickering fire this time of year. A docking station to play great tunes is also an Fall patio essential. To finish things off, be sure to add some simple Fall decorative touches like mini-pumpkins or gourds, a Fall wreath, or burlap and berries in an evergreen pot.
Add warmth to your evenings whether you are dining or relaxing with the gel fuel outdoor Pagoda fireplace. This elegant design is a great addition to any outdoor decor. It burns 100% clean burning gel fuel canisters (sold separately).
Hear the difference no matter where you are with this Sony portable speaker dock for iPod and iPhone. The rechargeable battery provides up to seven hours of listening, and when plugged into a power source the dock even charges your iPod or iPhone. The easy-to-read organic LED display shows important music information, and FM tuner features 20 station presets for additional listening pleasure.
3. Happiness is a warm blanket...and a patio heater!
When Peanuts creator, Charles M. Schulz, said "Happiness is a warm blanket", I'm sure he must have been thinking of Fall! For me, nothing says Fall quite as quintessentially as a fleece or woolen blanket thrown over the back of an adirondak chair. But to make things even cozier - or if you plan to entertain on your patio during the Fall - a patio heater is a fantastic idea.
The Infrared Patio Heater introduces a new revolution in outdoor heating by emitting gentle infrared waves which increase the temperature of their surroundings. This infrared patio heater runs on a regular household electric current and is substantially less expensive to operate than propane patio heaters. Unlike propane heaters, these IR heaters are not affected by the wind.
One last tip: If you're going to keep your patio furniture outdoors through the Fall, be sure to protect it from the elements! Patio furniture covers are the perfect way to keep your furniture looking good for years to come.
I hope these ideas on how to extend your patio season have you looking forward to Fall as much I am!
Until next time,
Kerri ;-)
P.S., Just for fun...
The Peanuts gang learns a valuable lesson in the importance of security after Linus learns that his grandmother plans to rid him of his beloved blanket during an upcoming visit in this animated special inspired by the comic strips of Charles Schulz. Wherever Linus goes, his blanket is sure to follow. But when Linus learns that his fuzzy, ever-present companion may soon be taken away from him, his friends all rally to highlight the importance of letting go. Somewhere between Lucy's arm-chair psychiatry, Snoopy's scheming to claim the blanket for himself, and Charlie Brown's inability to act while seeing his friend in distress, however, the insightful owner of the blanket in question points out the fact that everyone has a comfort item that helps them through hard times, and that sometimes when the going gets tough the best we can do is hang on and hope that things will get better soon.
