If you didn't catch my Tweets last night, I had the privilege of attending the exclusive Vancouver launch event for the newest wireless provider in Canada, Chatr. Some of you may have heard about this company already from news generated by their Monday night kickoff event in Toronto, which btw took place during that infamous blackout. (That blackout reminded me of the summer of 2003 when a similar incident occurred in Ontario and the U.S.)

Chatr is a cellular property owned by Rogers, so they will almost certainly deliver on a promise made by their GM, Irv Witte last night to have fewer dropped calls than other recent entrants in the Canadian cellular space since they have the massive asset of having customers leverage the Rogers network. It became pretty clear at the event that they're going after the new entrants - it's exciting to see even more choices of wireless providers in the Canadian marketplace. I always thought adding more competition in the cell business isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Also, the strengths of Chatr's cell services are unlimited calling and texting, two common features that the communicative types who are cautious of their usage will certainly appreciate.

Speaking of unlimited, that was the theme of last night's event: unlimited food, beverages and entertainment that included break dancers, DJ, Rock Band and a photo booth. As a guy who appreciates good food, I must share the mini burgers, chow mein, chicken skewers, old and hot spring rolls and orange sorbet (see picture below) were all divine!

Be on the lookout for Chatr hitting stores across the country this summer at fine retailers like Future Shop via their Cellshop departments.
