The need for Speed: why you should upgrade to UHS SD Cards.

by Blogger ‎09-29-2012 04:31 PM - edited ‎09-29-2012 04:32 PM

SDXCLOGO1.pngMemory cards are the often-overlooked key component of your camera that can make or break your shot or your video. It’s the part of the camera you’re most likely to add as an afterthought, grabbing the cheapest thing on the shelf. We’ve come a long way, getting into bigger cards, but it’s easy to forget that speed and quality come at a price.

by Blogger ‎09-29-2012 03:03 PM - edited ‎10-01-2012 09:59 AM

With fairytale film adaptations all the rage, it's no wonder Snow White was the next in line for a blockbuster makeover.  In his directorial debut, Rupert Sanders takes the helm of this tale and makes it darker, prettier and more action-packed than ever before.

Beautiful photography is all about perspective; it’s about how you, the photographer, can present what you’re seeing to someone in another time and another place. That unique moment, captured on film or as data, is what we share.

Great photographs aren’t recreations of what we see, because we can take in the whole scene after the fact. That means you can focus on a subject and still have a gorgeous background in the shot (like in a portrait), or you can pull everything into focus (like in a landscape shot)–that’s what we do when we manipulate depth of field, and it’s getting easier to do all the time. Great technology is helping to make better photographers out of all of us.

Android File Transfer.jpg

One of the cool things about how ubiquitous Android is comes in how it integrates with other devices. Not everyone who has a Mac has an iPhone or iPad, and for those who prefer to have an Android mobile device, the File Transfer software is a simple way to manage the video, music and photos you copy over.

Review: Microsoft Wedge Touch Mouse

by Blogger on ‎09-28-2012 08:24 PM

We’ve already taken a look at the new Microsoft Wedge Mobile bluetooth keyboard. Now its time to take a look at its sibling, the Microsoft Wedge Touch bluetooth mouse. Its microsoft’s new ultra-compact travel mouse for those on the go. It works with pretty well any device you’ve got that will support a bluetooth mouse. Touchscreens are gaining in popularity and so many of the devices coming out soon will have them, but for a lot of applications many users will still prefer their traditional mouse controls. This could be just what those users are looking for.

As though there wasn't already enough talk about the upcoming stealth-action game, Dishonored, Bethesda has just released yet another in-depth look into the game.  Unlike past sneak peeks, The Tales from Dunwall offers a truly imaginative look at the game and is filled with subtle hints at this increasingly cryptic city.

LG Optimus G quad-core Android smartphone hands-on video

by Retired Blogger ‎09-28-2012 02:07 PM - edited ‎10-02-2012 02:46 PM

LG Optimus G Title-1.jpg

Late last year I spent some time with LG’s flagship Optimus LTE Android Smartphone. While there was a lot to like (it was one of the first phones to ship with an HD IPS screen), it did suffer from some shortcomings, most notably is that it shipped with the older, and slower, Gingerbread OS (Android 2.3). Fast-forward to almost a year later, and LG just announced their new flagship Android phone, the QUAD-CORE Optimus G.

Yes, you read that right; the LG Optimus G sports a quad-core processor, and will be one of the only phones available in Canada with such a powerful CPU (and probably the only one running the new Snapdragon S4 Pro CPU) come its "early November" launch date. After spending some quality time with it yesterday, I can definitely say that it is a huge step up from last year’s top model. It could even be a contender for the best Android phone on the Canadian market when it launches on Bell, Rogers and Telus. This time around, it seems that LG has gotten the mix of ingredients just right – it has a beautiful 4.7” HD-IPS+ screen , fast quad-core processor, a big 2100 mAh battery, and runs the fast, smooth, Ice Cream Sandwich OS (Android 4.0).

Check out some pictures after the jump, along with a hands-on video where I speak at-length about the Optimus G with the always personable Frank Lee of LG Canada.

Chances are that you’ve already seen Rovio’s work. They’re famous for the amazingly popular game, Angry Birds. I’ve seen that game running on phones, tablets, PCs, TVs, game consoles etc. There are Angry birds toys, candies, clothes, you name it! There is no denying the popularity of the those birds, but what about the poor piggies? Well Rovio is back with their newest game, Bad Piggies, for iOS, Android, Mac, and PC.

Review: NHL 13

by Blogger on ‎09-27-2012 08:52 PM

Let me be frank, I've never been one for sports games.  That said, I'm not much of a sports fan either so, as you can very well imagine, a game like NHL 13 was something very much out of my comfort zone.  I was always in tune with the series and dabbled in a few casual games here and there, but I was never as driven by it as some people I know. That made this experience a little on the interesting side for me, the casual player.  And let's face it, there are lots of us out there: people who pick up and play without getting a full feel of the game. Considering all the iterations made in NHL 13 this could potentially be the best place to start, even if there are a few frustrations along the way.

AQUOS 70 straight.jpg

As summer fades into autumn, we start to find ourselves spending more and more time indoors. This trend will increase throughout the winter months, as the weather grows increasingly inhospitable. Perhaps you should take a moment to reconsider your current television, since the two of you are about to be enjoying a lot more time together. Is it HD? Does it have Wi-Fi? Here's a few suggestions that just may help you find a new television for those chilly winter nights.

RIM sheds some more light on BlackBerry 10

If yesterday couldn’t be considered a ‘good’ day for RIM, it was certainly a hopeful one. To an audience made up of mostly developers and some tech media, RIM CEO Thorsten Heins and co. lifted the curtain (almost literally) on some of the features you can expect to see when BlackBerry 10 finally comes to life sometime soon after the New Year. Needless to say, what was shown bears virtually no resemblance to anything the company has done before.
