Songza proves to be one of the best music discovery platforms

by Blogger ‎09-14-2012 11:35 PM - edited ‎09-14-2012 11:36 PM

Songza for Android.jpgI first came across Songza over four years ago when it was a Web-based music player that scoured the Internet for any and all songs it could find to stream them to you. These included songs available on free music streaming services, including the standard 30-second samples, and even audio from music videos and live performances posted on YouTube. Songza has matured a lot since then, and has become one of the coolest ways to listen to free tunes and discover a whole load of new ones.

Europe is all over this new culinary trend offering a gastronomic feast with out having worry about those calories storing fat around your love handles.  It’s called Le Whaf. Essentially, it works by having a meal steamed, boiled into a liquid, and then strained, followed by being poured into a special style of gadget produced in France (looks a lot like a glass caldron).

For the past few months, Bethesda has been offering plenty of gameplay videos for their latest big title, Dishonored. While stealth action games are nothing new to the gaming world, it allows you total control over your actions in the game, each of which have their consequences. In addition to sneaking past or taking down your enemies, you can also use your supernatural abilities in some truly creative ways. This is probably the first (or one of the first) assassination games to offer such versatility in gameplay -- the more we see, the more enticing those possibilities are.

Nikon Announces D600 Full-Frame Consumer HD-SLR

by Blogger on ‎09-13-2012 05:09 AM - last edited on ‎09-20-2012 03:07 PM by Administrator

D600_ambience_2.high.jpg

“Begun the full-frame wars have....” --Yoda (honest!)

Nikon’s latest HD-SLR (really, Nikon?) has been announced–the 24.3megapixel Full-Frame FX-Format sensor in a super-light body. For those of you new to photography, let’s be clear: this is a really big deal.

Most consumer DSLRs use APS-C sized sensors; they’re big–a lot bigger than the small sensors you’ll find in most point and shoot models. The problem over the last two years is that mirrorless cameras like Nikon’s own Nikon 1J2 have been encroaching on that DSLR territory, offering great performance in a smaller size.

Nikon is the among the first of the big manufacturers to answer that call by upping the ante: adding a pro-level, pro-sized sensor to their consumer HD-SLR line. Nikon’s FX-sensor is roughly the size of a piece of 35mm film, meaning that lenses intended for full frame sensors no longer need to be thought of with a “crop factor” in mind to figure out what they do. The crop factor, usually 1.5x or 1.6x is why that 18mm-55mm lens behaves like at 35-90mm on your current APS-C DSLR (if you’ve got one!).

BlackBerry10DevAlpha.jpgWith RIM getting ready to release BlackBerry 10 early next year, they’ve been on a bit of a blitz this year, targeting both developers and the media.  For those who know RIM, this is a complete departure from what we’ve been used to.  I had an opportunity to attend one of their recent BlackBerry 10 Jam events in Vancouver and came away impressed and with some useful info on developing for the upcoming BlackBerry 10 platform. While there, I also saw what RIM is doing to ensure that this platform is as developer friendly as possible and got more info on what RIM is doing to ensure that this platform has more than enough apps at launch.

The late 90s were a bizarre time for video games, particularly game mascots.  Dominated by anthropomorphic platforming heroes in hopes of joining the mainstays like Mario and Sonic, these obnoxiously colourful characters either never made it to the top or lacked the charm to last long.  While there's still a market for characters like Spyro, Donkey Kong, Rayman and Klonoa, names like Gex, Crock, Ty and Scaler have laid to rest long ago.
