The incredible thing about the digital revolution is how it has democratized creation. Sounds fancy, but what it means is that ordinary people like you and I can make our stuff. Think about it: back in the 80s the revolution was called “Desktop Publishing”... it took the process of printing pictures, documents, books, and posters (along with a whole lot of other stuff) out of the hands of an exclusive group of professionals, and let regular people make what they wanted, when they wanted. It started out rough, with dot matrix printers jamming pins against strips of ink, but has evolved into today’s photo-ready laser and inkjet models that can rival some of the professional jobs out there.

And then we had the digital imaging and digital video revolution in the 90s and early 2000s with the creation of the digital camera, DV camcorder, and readily available editing software. Garage Band turned everyone and anyone into a musician and producer. These amazing advances haven’t destroyed high quality professional work, they’ve just made it easier for more people to become involved in the process of creation.
