HTC unveils RE camera, upgrades coming to camera apps

At its ‘Double Exposure’ event today in New York, HTC unveiled a new handheld pocket video camera called the RE, and announced coming updates and upgrades to the camera software for its phones. The focus of these announcements is on what HTC calls “redefining mobile imaging”, and for the first time, it is opening things up to both third-party developers and even iOS devices.

Motorola has unveiled its newest smartphones with new models of the Moto X and Moto G and the Moto 360 smartwatch at a media event in Chicago. The new devices bring Motorola into the world of wearables and continue the design and usability features first introduced in the company’s phones last year. They are all coming to Canada, and I got to spend some time with them for a solid first impression.

Samsung unveiled two new smartphones at an event that ran simultaneously in New York, Berlin and Beijing, with the Galaxy Note 4 and Galaxy Note Edge. This marks the first time that two unique Note handsets will be released, though neither is a huge departure from the existing formula. The Note 4 is Samsung’s most powerful phone to date, while the Note Edge uses a curve on the side of its screen to display information like a ticker or menu bar.

Samsung introduced the new Galaxy S5 smartphone at its Unpacked event in Barcelona during Mobile World Congress (MWC), promising a handset that will be its most “mesmerizing” and connected yet. With a similar, though more refined design, the S5 appears to take some of its design and functional cues from the previous two devices, but Samsung seems to also want to make sure consumers understand that the focus is a little bigger with this one.
