It’s already widely known that Vevo is the go-to app for watching music videos on a smartphone or tablet, but what if you wanted to watch music videos based on songs you have in your own collection? MusicTV is a neat little app that does just that; it scours YouTube and plays a music video that matches the song you’re playing.

These days you can play video games on almost any gadget it seems. I’m a big gamer myself. I love console gaming, PC gaming, even mobile gaming. One of my favorites over the past year has been gaming on tablets. A lot of gamers don’t realize it yet, but tablets are fantastic for gaming. There are so many great games you can play on them - the formfactor means you can play virtually anywhere, they have nice big screens compared to smartphones, and the touch controls can facilitate some unique game-play mechanics.

Last year, Apple rolled out a “12 Days of Christmas” campaign wherein they offered a free item from the iTunes Store each day, and this year has been no different. Granted, we’re already halfway through this year’s list of freebies, but today’s is Sonic Jump, a solid game (normally $0.99 in the iTunes Store). It’s available now until midnight, when the clock ticks into a new year because each free item is available for 24 hours. With six days left after this, there could be a couple more gems to look out for.
My dad had a tradition to always do some Christmas shopping Christmas Eve. This year, I’ve been informed, I’ll be staying close to home with family and not rushing around from store to store. But this is the last weekend for Christmas shopping and while you might have gotten all the big gifts already, don’t forget about those stocking stuffers (or quick gifts for people on your list). So here are my top 10 tech and geek stocking stuffers!

The Slingbox has been around for at least seven years, and the concept behind it hasn’t changed drastically in that time. Yet it still amazes me how many people have either never heard or it, or have trouble understanding what it actually does. The Slingbox SB500 and Slingbox 350 are the latest models, and they come four years after the previous ones first hit the market. Here’s what they do and how they do it.

Future Shop has started expanding its offerings to include items like luggage and…bedding…yes bedding. And while you might think of bedding as a “low tech” kind of thing, really the science of sleep is very interesting—and essential to your health and wellbeing. Believe it or not, if you don’t get enough sleep you start losing IQ and driving tired is considered as bad as (and maybe more common than) driving drunk.

Every year Halloween apps get more and more sophisticated (and dare I say scary!). This year is no exception. From interactive costumes to 3D animations, here are my five favourite downloads for October 31st.
You have an iPad. You’re surfing, you read and answer emails, read books, play games, watch movies, post to your blog… Wait, what? Post to my blog? No way! That’s way to hard. The apps don’t work well, and how, pray tell, do I deal with images? Huh, mister smarty pants professional blogger…oh right.
While blogging on your iPad wasn’t too great at first, now it’s pretty easy and in this how-to I’m going to give you the ins and outs of getting it done. With caveats along the way.

It’s funny how Apple do so many things really well, but just misses the boat on a few core apps on the iPad. Mail is a common whipping boy, but let’s not forget the build in Calendar app. Clunky, slow, cumbersome, and just not the best app in the world. Sure it works, but I only use it to check my schedule not actually manage it.
Get ready to be wowed, the worthy alternative to the build-in Calendar, Calendars by Readdle received a big update recently and I think you sound take a look at it if you manage any kind of complex schedule.

Apple’s App Store has no shortage of Web browsers, and a lot of them have certain niches that might appeal to you. There are obviously the ones that support Flash, but the one I recently found so functional is iCab Mobile. It can do a lot of things that Safari can’t, but the one feature that stands out for me is the ability to download YouTube videos for offline viewing.

Not that this was unexpected, but Google launched a new-and-improved YouTube app for the iPhone today, and you can download it now for free from the App Store. The move comes after Apple and Google failed to come to an agreement on how to integrate the popular video platform into iOS after their five-year licensing deal expired.
