by Blogger on ‎12-26-2014 07:28 PM - last edited on ‎01-14-2015 01:33 PM by Blog Editor in Chief

BlackBerry probably had no other name to call its latest phone than the Classic. It is, after all, classic BlackBerry, harkening back to a time when the Bold was the company’s most beloved handset. This device also marks the return of the toolbar with the trackpad front and centre, adding the kind of tactile navigation some users have clamoured for.

Which smartphone platform do you use?

by Blogger on ‎12-23-2014 01:08 PM

Smartphone loyalty seems a little fleeting sometimes because part of what keeps a user around is the mobile operating system as much as the phone itself. I tend to ask people why they use iOS, Android, BlackBerry or Windows Phone, and the answers usually have a common denominator — they just like it. Comparing the four major platforms, there are plenty of similarities with distinct differences.

It would be easy to say that the BlackBerry Classic is a breath of fresh air for all BlackBerry diehards out there, especially those of you reading this who longed for a return of the trackpad. The most surprising part of the Classic itself (at least what caught me off guard most when I first held it) beyond the allure of the trackpad was how solid and heavy it feels in hand. Read about my initiial impressions of Blackberry's new smartphone.

by Blogger on ‎08-11-2014 01:39 PM - last edited on ‎08-12-2014 01:44 PM by Blog Editor in Chief

As the title suggests, the weeks leading back to the start of a new school year might require you looking into a smartphone that will help you over the next eight to 12 months. Now, the “best” doesn’t necessarily mean the best on the market, but rather the best for what you need. You may be a student on a budget, or your needs might not be particularly complex, and that’s why the list in this post is focused more on bang for the buck.

How to create your own free ringtones with iTunes

iTunes logo.jpgRingtones aren’t new, but they’re easy to distinguish anytime you hear them. That catchy hook or cool opening part of a song can be the best way to move away from the standard ringtones available on the iPhone and give your contacts some personality. You can do this pretty easily by creating your own ringtones for free using the music you already have. All you need is a Windows PC or Mac, plus iTunes and your iPhone, and you’re ready to make it happen.

Sony Xperia Z2 and tablet.jpg

Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona has become the preeminent world event for all things mobile, with some of the latest flagship phones, tablets and apps being introduced to the masses during the show from Feb. 24-27. Some of the standouts so far will be coming to Canada, and even sooner than you might think.

BlackBerry 10.2.1 update.jpgBlackBerry has rolled out a major update to its BB10 operating system today with version 10.2.1, which brings in a handful of new features meant to streamline and enhance specific controls and options. The update includes some other upgrades and enhancements that have been overdue in the company’s latest devices.

Review: New BlackBerry Z30

by Blogger on ‎11-04-2013 10:27 AM - last edited on ‎11-05-2013 10:17 AM by Blog Editor in Chief

Despite rumours of an impending death, BlackBerry seems far from being gone, and its newest device, the Z30, may be the best it’s ever made. It offers some of the same things you expect to find in a flagship handset in 2013, though missing others that have become standard. BlackBerry 10.2 undoubtedly improves the software experience, and the hardware is a noticeable step up, which will almost certainly please current BlackBerry users. But is there enough here to win over converts?

The 2013-14 NHL season has already begun and if you’re a fan of a specific team or just love taking in games from various teams, NHL GameCenter is a pretty sweet package. For $150 (or $25 per month) for the full regular season, you get access to dozens of out-of-market streaming games every week. There are a couple of ways you can make your experience even better and gain access to every single game the service offers, regardless of the restrictions.

Protect Your Data.jpgBack in November last year, the Canadian Wireless Telecommunications Association (CWTA), an umbrella group that includes the major carriers among its members, announced that a stolen phone and tablet blacklist was in the works, and today is the day it finally goes live. Starting from today, the carriers will check any phone that has been reported lost or stolen on an international blacklist before activating it.

GalaxyS4_Android_BBM_Chat_Multimedia_ENG_medres.jpgWhether you're a current or former BlackBerry user or if you've never used a BlackBerry before, there's a good chance you've previously heard of BBM.  Even if you haven't, you've likely heard of one of the many clones that have since been developed, such as Whatsapp, even though these apps just aren't the same.  But because BBM was only available on BlackBerry devices, many people had no option but to use other cross-platform apps as their friends switched to other devices.  Well great news!  If you still have a BlackBerry, you will be able to start chatting again with your friends on Android and iPhone smartphones starting this weekend!  Read on for all the details!

The fall is an exciting time for sports fans of the major leagues because so many of them are either getting started or already ongoing, be it the NHL, NFL, NBA, European soccer leagues and more. Even though Major League Baseball and the CFL wind down, there’s still plenty to keep tabs on, especially in October and November when all of those leagues have something going on.

Cell phone plans FS.jpg

You may have noticed that the dreaded three-year cell phone contracts that used to be the norm have been replaced by two-year deals, even though the new code of conduct put forth by the CRTC (Canadian Radio-television Telecommunications Commission) won’t officially go into effect until December. If you’re shopping for a phone now, you can expect to have one less year in your contract, and newer plans to choose from.
