Future Shop has been a great place to buy printers since the start of desktop publishing. They’ve had every major model of popular printer from Canon, Epson, Lexmark, and Brother. And while printing is going to continue to be an important part of what we all do with computing, it’s time to take it to the next dimension. Literally. It’s time for Future Shop to start carrying 3D printers.

Belkin showcased the next stage in the evolution of its WeMo home control system by now making it possible to turn wall light switches on or off when you’re away from home. The current model available can do it for lamps and devices that are plugged into a power outlet, but this would mark the first time that WeMo can actually integrate with a home’s existing wiring. In addition to this announcement, the company also said an Android WeMo app is coming this summer.

If you’ve ever felt your iPad was missing more of a booming audio presence, Belkin is looking to scratch that itch with its Thunderstorm case, which the company says is “the first handheld home theatre” for the tablet. With a hard, tight-fitting design, and stereo speakers along the side, the Thunderstorm also features the ability to direct the audio out to you depending on if you’re watching alone or with someone else.

Withings will be coming out with a new smart scale that will measure not only your weight and body mass index, but also your heart rate and the carbon dioxide (CO2) inside your bedroom to help you better understand why you may have trouble sleeping. The data is shared with a free iOS or Android app, as well as other third-party fitness apps, over Wi-Fi or Bluetooth to give you a snapshot of how you’re doing and what it means.

Like SMS Audio in the post below, we’ve got another cosmetic change for a pair of headphones — Sennheiser’s Momentum. Future Shop carries the original brown model that came out last year, but Sennheiser will be releasing a black model with a red cable within a few months, I was told. There’s nothing different under the hood, so the sound will be the same, and the $399.99 price tag will likely be, too.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to talk to 50 Cent himself about the latest SMS Audio headphones bearing his name and likeness, but then again, there wasn’t a whole lot of news to report, either. The one piece of info that might interest you is that new colours for the Street on-ear headphones were presented at CES, and word is they’ll be hitting Canada sometime soon, possibly before the spring. There are no technical differences between these and the original models, so this is purely a cosmetic change. The new colours are navy blue, monster green, metallic orange, metallic pink, metallic red, metallic teal.

Ion is a company known for making smartphone and tablet accessories that are a little unusual, but plenty of fun. The Party Rocker is a big standing speaker that can play music wirelessly from any Bluetooth-enabled music player or via a standard 3.5mm line-in cable. The light at the top projects lights like a disco ball onto the walls and ceiling of a room, and can change the colours and patterns based on the beat of the music you’re playing. There’s also a microphone for those who want to go all-out and start singing along.

It doesn't matter how many trade shows you go to, you'll still find that CES can kick your rear. It's a big, unforgiving monster that chews up people and spits out sore feet, sore backs, and big grins. Day 2 didn't disappoint, and left me anxious for more great stuff on Day 3.

Got a quick look today at the Navigator on-ear headphones from Skullcandy, and this sunglasses-inspired set is a light and stylish design that should be coming to Canada before the spring after having been out in the U.S. since the fall. They’re going for $99 south of the border, so expect to see a similar price point up here in the Great White North.
If you have Pioneer’s AppRadio 2 head unit installed in your car — and you own an iPhone 5 or latest iPod Touch — then you may have been suffering from a lack of functionality because of the move from the 30-pin connector to the new Lightning one Apple developed. Pioneer is finally coming out with a fix for this and you can expect to see it in a matter of weeks.
