Pioneer has been a household name in electronics for quite some time, particularly for audio equipment. They introduced their Elite series of audio receivers several years ago as their premium product, but recently upgraded it a big step up from previous generations. They’ve improved both the audio performance and the feature set so these Elite receivers can fill your home with audiophile quality music as well as deliver surround sound that will really enhance your home theatre experience. Here is a taste of why they are so good.

How important is a receiver in your home theatre set up?  Very.  Think of it like the engine of a car; yes you can still sit in the seats, and yes, the car will keep the rain and snow off you, but without the engine, you're just lounging in a fancy metal can. Not sure what a reciever does?  We'll explain that too.  Come check out some solid options from Pioneer.

Review: Polk Audio OMNI SB1

by Blogger ‎01-25-2015 10:03 AM - edited ‎01-25-2015 10:25 AM

There are a lot of people out there with great flat screen TVs set up in their homes but are still using the TV’s built in speakers. Sure those do okay in a pinch but if you want your audio experience to be good as the visuals that TV delivers, you should consider setting up a home theatre system. One of the great things with flat screen TVs in comparison to older TVs is that now you can put TVs in more places where you might not otherwise have the space, but what about speakers? Not everybody has space for a big and complex home theatre setup. Running cables and positioning speakers can be a bit of work for some people. If you want something that you can install simply, won’t take up too much space, and will still give you a great sound experience, then a soundbar is for you. Soundbars do all of this, delivering the right balance between simplicity and performance. Polk Audio has a very solid history in premium audio so it was a treat to check out their Omni SB1 soundbar with subwoofer.

I have limited space in my living room. A big home theatre setup would be impractical so I always had my eye on soundbars. They help you enhance your audio experience while being easy to setup and not taking up much space. I had the opportunity recently to spend some time checking out the Energy Connoisseur CS-30 Soundbar and Subwoofer system and found it perfectly filled that gap in my setup.

Review: Polk Omni S2 Rechargeable Speaker - My Love-Hate Relationship

by Blogger on ‎01-05-2015 01:37 PM - last edited on ‎01-05-2015 05:09 PM by Blog Editor in Chief

It's a heavy, weighty speaker, and that's probably because the Polk Audio S2 Rechargeable Speaker is packed with all kinds of good stuff that will make it one of the best sounding speakers you'll ever bring into your home, especially considering it's portable and rechargeable.  But find out why, despite the sound of angels singing eminating from this music box, I had a very frustrating experience.

Getting music from your phone or your computer to your Hi-Fi audio system can be accomplished in a number of ways; some cheap, some expensive. The experience isn’t uniform–some are great, some are less than great. Mass Fidelity’s Relay has been on the market for some time, and as one of the premium solutions available from Future Shop it has raised the question “is it worth the price difference over commodity competitors on the market?”. Let’s take a look together.

Klipsch R-10B Soundbar Review

by Blogger on ‎12-31-2014 11:30 AM - last edited on ‎01-02-2015 02:28 PM by Blog Editor in Chief

Klipsch 1.jpg

Here’s the R-10B soundbar and subwoofer system from Klipsch. As we all know, a good soundbar should not simply provide a louder version of the television’s built-in speakers’ sound. What we want to hear is a wider, more colourful rendition of the audio. Crisper details in dialogues, enhanced bass, etc. In general, a better definition of the mid and high range frequencies is needed. And this is exactly what the Klipsch R-10B delivers. Furthermore, the 8-inch sub (included in the system) really gives that extra “oumph” without more wires in the way, thanks to the R-10B’s wireless configuration.

Can a Receiver work with a Soundbar?

Home theatre setups can get complicated once you start adding on all sorts of different components. There are a lot of different gadgets out there and people’s setups can vary wildly, so you’ll rarely see the same combination of gear twice. With that in mind let’s take a look a community question that popped up in our forums recently. A user as asking about setting up their soundbar with their receiver, which is actually a pretty interesting question and gives us an opportunity to talk about how to approach your home theatre setup and get everything working in harmony.

Here's how to transform an ordinary stereo into a more modern one in a snap: add ways to connect to it with and without wires! Pioneer wins this bet by giving the Bluetooth-enabled X-CM32BT-K speaker over seven ways to play music. This versatile system acts as a CD player, an AM / FM tuner as well as a docking station for your multimedia devices (either through Bluetooth or with a wire connection). Furthermore, this micro system does all this without compromising either sound quality or power.

There's a saying about everything old being new again.  It's definitely true for vinyl records. The old fashioned technology is having a bit of a resurgence, with sales spiking, and new and imporved technology emerging to play all your old discs, or to play a growing number of new ones.
