Sometimes, a good recommendation can be a great starting point or the final confirmation when making the decision to buy a device like a tablet. Of course, not every tablet works for every user, and not every user wants every tablet that’s available, so it doesn’t hurt to filter through the options. This group of tablets are the ones that stand out based on feedback from you, the readers and consumers.

Review: Hipstreet Phoenix Android tablet

Lately I’ve been spending some time with the Hipstreet Phoenix tablet. I’ve used a lot of different tablets over the years, from the ubiquitous iPad, to the genre defying Surface. I love how much variety there is in tablets these days, and its great that more manufacturers are getting in on the scene too. While Hipstreet is by no means new to the tablet game, I had never tried out any of Hipstreet’s devices before so I was particularly curious how this tablet would stack up the other tablets out there. I have no existing expectations from the brand so this was like a blind taste test. I usually keep quite up to date on the news for all the latest gadgets but I had no idea what to expect this time.

It’s almost hard to believe that the tablet market, at least as we know it today, is little more than four years old. From the original iPad launch in 2010 to the spate of differing models available now, the category’s evolution has made choosing between them both easy and difficult at the same time. This year has seen some solid options come to market, and here are the best of the bunch.

I love seeing tablets grow in popularity. Over the past few years they went from a niche experimental device to an invaluable addition to your digital arsenal. You can get tablets suited to different needs, with widely varying features, power levels, and specifications. This year it seems like the big things with tablets is to be ‘Ultra’ in some way. Whether its ultra-thin, ultra-powerful, ultra large, ultra-portable, or even ultra-durable. A lot of tablets pick out one factor to favor and go all in to live up to it as well as possible, carving out its own niche.

To an outsider, it might seem like all tablets are the same. They’re more or less all flat rectangles with touchscreens and a couple of buttons along an edge or two. Don’t let the superficial similarities fool you though. There can be a huge difference between tablets and picking the right tablet to match how you intend to use it can make all the difference in the world.

You want to buy a tablet for someone you love and respect, but might be unsure which model fits best with whom you’re buying for. In some cases, it can be easy to decide, whereas it might not be in others, particularly if the person you have in mind has never owned one before. Options abound, and it’s not just about the products themselves, but what experience or solution they can provide.

It's wonderful seeing tablets grow increasingly popular with each passing year. They’re becoming invaluable devices for anyone who needs more than a smartphone, but less than a desktop workstation PC. These days there are so many tablet options that you can surely find one to suit your needs and one of the big factors in your decision ought to be screen size. The size of your tablet’s screen can make a big impact on how you use the device in the future. It impacts how portable the device is, sure. Obviously a mini-tablet is easier to carry around than a jumbo-tablet, but it is so much more than that. Depending on which screen size you go for, it can affect how you hold your tablet, how useful it is for certain tasks, and of course how much you’ll be spending.

CES 2014: Samsung Galaxy Tab and Galaxy Note go Pro

It could be argued that Samsung’s Galaxy Note tablets were always more “pro” than the Tab models were. The latter was more about value for the price, while the former offered better specs and unique functionality. There appears to be a greater synergy between the two lines now that they are linked by screen size, form factor and software. I got a hands-on look at both and here are my initial thoughts.

Review: Dell Venue 8 Pro Windows tablet

by Blogger on ‎12-29-2013 07:55 PM - last edited on ‎02-20-2014 05:03 PM by Blog Editor in Chief

Dell Venue 8 Pro main.jpg

The 8-inch tablet race isn’t one with a lot of players, but it may be the one to watch moving forward into 2014. Dell seems to think so, too, and has entered the fray with a Windows 8 tablet that runs a full version of the operating system and includes a pre-installed copy of Office Home and Student. It’s an intriguing combination of PC software mixed with the portability of a tablet, but how does a more unhindered Windows 8 look and feel on an 8-inch display?
