Review: Sony Walkman NWZ-A17

by Blogger ‎03-22-2015 07:38 AM - edited ‎03-22-2015 07:39 AM

If like me you’ve lived through the eighties then the name Walkman has a certain special meaning to you. Some may describe the Walkman as simply a portable cassette tape player but of course it means so much more than that. There was a long time where Walkman was synonymous with portable personal music players. If you saw someone with headphones on bobbing their head to some tunes, you would say that they were listening to their Walkman. Sony delivered portable personal audio so well that their brand was inexorably tied to the very concept of it. Since digital audio players became the norm we haven’t heard much from Sony about the Walkman brand but now it’s back with the NWZ-A17 Walkman to remind us all what we’ve been missing.

CES 2013: Sennheiser Momentum headphones going red and black

Like SMS Audio in the post below, we’ve got another cosmetic change for a pair of headphones — Sennheiser’s Momentum. Future Shop carries the original brown model that came out last year, but Sennheiser will be releasing a black model with a red cable within a few months, I was told. There’s nothing different under the hood, so the sound will be the same, and the $399.99 price tag will likely be, too.

CES 2013: SMS by 50 Cent to launch new colours for on-ear Street headphones

Unfortunately, I didn’t get a chance to talk to 50 Cent himself about the latest SMS Audio headphones bearing his name and likeness, but then again, there wasn’t a whole lot of news to report, either. The one piece of info that might interest you is that new colours for the Street on-ear headphones were presented at CES, and word is they’ll be hitting Canada sometime soon, possibly before the spring. There are no technical differences between these and the original models, so this is purely a cosmetic change. The new colours are navy blue, monster green, metallic orange, metallic pink, metallic red, metallic teal.

CES 2013: Skullcandy Navigator headphones coming to Canada

by Blogger on ‎01-09-2013 05:31 PM - last edited on ‎01-16-2013 02:56 PM by JorgeM Recognized Expert

Skullcandy Navigator.jpgGot a quick look today at the Navigator on-ear headphones from Skullcandy, and this sunglasses-inspired set is a light and stylish design that should be coming to Canada before the spring after having been out in the U.S. since the fall. They’re going for $99 south of the border, so expect to see a similar price point up here in the Great White North.

Review: Sennheiser MM 400-X Bluetooth Headphones

by Blogger on ‎01-02-2013 11:56 AM - last edited on ‎01-16-2013 02:56 PM by JorgeM Recognized Expert

I hate chords with a passion.  Not only do they get tangled easily and often, my cat loves to chew on them (I can't even count how many chords she's chewed through and ruined). Headphones and earbuds tend to be the biggest victims with their soft, thin chords (perfect for some teeth to sink into), so unless I'm keeping a watchful eye they don't usually make it past a night or two. Luckily, there are options, particularly Sennheiser's two Bluetooth headphones: the MM 400-X and 450-X. They may be one small step in the right direction, but it's something I think many of you will find yourselves oggling over, whether you're a pet owner or simply want something wireless and sleek. Today, I'll be talking about the MM 400-X.  Let's take a peek.

Review: Audiofly AF56 In-Ear Headphones

With the enormous range of headphone brands on the market today, it might be a little jarring figuring out which ones to look out for.  I can sympathize, and often find myself perplexed and overwhelmed by all the diferent names and model numbers.  Experiencing that satisfying, rich bass is amazing enough, but finding a product that effortlessly marries that boom with equally satisfying high end trebles is something else entirely.  Luckily, it looks like Australian brand Audiofly has it down to a tee. Much like the House of Marley series, Audiofly's products prove just how passionate and quality-conscious the team is all while suiting a wide spectrum of listeners.

Review: SMS Audio Street by 50 Cent over-ear headphones

by Blogger on ‎11-09-2012 07:47 AM - last edited on ‎01-16-2013 02:58 PM by JorgeM Recognized Expert

50 Cent SMS Street main.jpgCelebrity endorsement isn’t going to make a pair of headphones great on its own, and consumers are certainly astute enough to know that, yet that’s not stopping the trend from continuing on. Beats by Dre is naturally the most recognizable and most popular, but there are others doing the same thing, like 50 Cent. The rapper apparently put his own mark on these headphones, so let’s see what he considers to be good sound.

"Are we there yet?" It's a saying most parents get used to hearing when traveling with babies and children! Getting away is fun, but, let's face it, the 'getting there' can be plain ol' stressful with young children in tow! Since there's only a few weeks of summer left to get away with family before the fall school routine begins (eek!), I thought I'd share a few of my tried and true tips on how to travel with children (without losing your mind ;-)).

SOL Republic releases Deadmau5 Tracks HD headphones

SOL Republic DeadMau5.jpg

SOL Republic have only just entered the Canadian market, and on top of the Tracks and Tracks HD headphones available at Future Shop, there’s also a Deadmau5-themed set ready to hit the shelves, too. One of Canada’s most famous DJs and producers seems to have loved the brand so much, he helped design a set that carries his look and imprint on them.

The whole business around headphones these days is just as much about style as it is about substance. What celebrity isn’t endorsing a line of headphones nowadays? You know you’ve hit close to rock bottom when Pauly D from Jersey Shore is primed to get his own branded set. On the outside looking in at this madness is SOL Republic, a new company that’s barely a year old, but a potential rising star in a confusing category. Having met with one of the company’s chief executives and trying out a couple of their headphones, I came away surprised at what I experienced.

Review: Rocketfish Mobile RF-MAB2, High Definition Bluetooth headset

by Blogger on ‎07-31-2012 06:36 AM - last edited on ‎01-16-2013 03:04 PM by JorgeM Recognized Expert

Bluetooth enabled headsets are preferable to wired headsets in most situations where cables simply get in the way.  Now that Bluetooth standards can provide strong stereo signals thanks to the A2DP standard and battery life is way improved a good wireless headset like the Rocketfish Mobile RF-MAB2 ($59.99 from Future Shop) hit the sweet spot.

5 Tips for Decorating a Dorm Room

by Blogger on ‎07-30-2012 05:05 PM - last edited on ‎01-16-2013 03:05 PM by JorgeM Recognized Expert

In just a couple of days, July will turn to August, and that means college/university students everywhere - and their parents ;-) - will begin thinking about decorating dorm rooms.  When you hear the word 'dorm room', descriptors like 'small', 'drab' and 'cramped' often come to mind.  But, with a little creativity, and the right furniture and decor, a dorm room can actually be an inspiring space...
