Mobile gaming in 3D was mentioned during LG’s press conference yesterday, and seeing it in action today suggested that this may not turn out to be a gimmick. Granted, LG only had one Ultra HD TV in their booth showcasing the new technology, but the chance to play mobile games using LG smartphones that are up-converted and in 3D at least looks promising.

Piecing together a home theatre can be a rewarding experience. Sitting back to watch your favourite movie in glorious 5.1 or 7.1 surround in the comfort of your home for the first time can be well worth the time and effort spent setting it up. That's not to say it doesn't take some work. Careful planning and research is needed to make sure you purchase the right components. For those who don't want the hassle, a home theatre in a box may be the solution.
LG is certainly known for its televisions and smartphones, but the Korea-based company has made huge strides in the home theater department over the past few years. 3D. It has gotten a bit of a bad rap this year. After the huge success of Avatar in theatres, everyone thought the 3D revolution would really take-off, but it didn’t. In the theatres part of the problem was the rush by Hollywood to convert any and every movie, even if it wasn’t designed for it, into 3D, which lead to some pretty poor viewing experiences. On the home-theatre side, I think one of the reasons why 3D TV adoption rates haven’t been that high is to do with some of the limitations of the technology that the first generation of 3D TV’s use.
The gap between the PC and the TV can be felt on a variety of levels, but the most prominent and noticeable thing is that most TVs feel Dumb with a capital D. Even with modern refinements, many living room displays feel shackled by unintuitive, slow menus, commanded by a very clunky Infrared remote.
LG has stepped up to the plate with an effort to make TV smarter. Not just their TV, but any TV with an HDMI input. By introducing Smart TV LG has taken a stab at gentrifying the user experience for HDTV owners with better controls, cool features, and some great content. Smart TV will be included in some of LG's new lineup, but can be added to other TVs, including those from other brands, by way of a Smart TV box and remote. I don't say this often of televisions but I am impressed.
