by Blogger ‎10-29-2013 02:10 AM - edited ‎11-09-2013 03:57 PM

With the gift giving season fast approaching, I've recently started to consider (and worry about) what gifts to include this year in my wife's Christmas stocking. One might think that stocking stuffers are the least of a gift giver's worries, but that’s not the case when it comes to my wife's stocking. Stockings in our family are a huge to do! There are plenty of gifts included, and even an "overflow bag" for all of those larger (yet stocking appropriate) items that won't quite fit into the stocking itself. Read on for a short list of useful stocking stuffer ideas...

I believe in Gotham City! But do I believe in Ben Affleck as Batman?

Warner Bros. just announced that Ben Affleck will star as the new Batman in the next superhero sequel to the latest version of Superman, “Man of Steel.”

The massive buzzing on the internet, filled with both pro and con comments following this announcement, is music to the studio’s many ears. So don’t be left in the dark: revisit the many batmans of the past so when this movie comes out you can make an informed decision about Ben’s worthiness to portray the caped crusader.

The Conjuring: one of the best new releases for fans of horror movies

by Blog Editor in Chief ‎08-02-2013 05:09 PM - edited ‎09-03-2013 02:06 PM

The Conjuring is an outstanding haunted house horror movie.

It’s based on the real lives of paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren, convincingly portrayed by Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel, nominated for Academy Award for Up in the air).

I loved the pacing of the film which gradually raised the tension in the theatre over the first half hour, then routinely shocked and surprised the audience for the rest of the film.

Game of Thrones Season Three Hollywood Premiere

It's one of the most popular TV shows on the planet and Hollywood hosted the first ever premiere of the epic HBO program Game of Thrones. I was fortunate enough to attend the festivities - from the red carpet premiere at the famous Grauman's Chinese Theater to the cool after-party at the Roosevelt Hotel. An amazing night to celebrate an amazing show!

Hot on the heels of Jennifer Lawrence’s BEST ACTRESS win at the 2013 Academy Awards™, Lionsgate has capitalized beautifully on the media attention to launch their first promotional wave of art showcasing the cast of the next film in The Hunger Games franchise, Catching Fire. While Alliance owns the rights to the franchise in Canada, I’m sure they aren’t complaining about the marketing powerhouse being offered up for the film across the world. As an avid fan of the teen book series (no shame here folks), I always get a little giddy when information is leaked about the upcoming film...

Single or In a Relationship – Five steps to a get ready for Valentine’s Day

by Blogger on ‎01-31-2013 03:25 PM - last edited on ‎02-04-2013 11:43 AM by Administrator

Valentine’s Day is that time of the year where those hearts are showing more love than usual. Yes, I agree that we should express love everyday but February 14th wins for expressing a little extra romance.  Typically, Valentine’s Day is celebrated for people in relationships showing off their love for one another. For those who are single, turn this day into a celebration of life and divulge in self-love.

Whether you are single or in a relationship, here are the five steps to make Valentine’s Day extra special:

M2201491.jpgDredd is better than you think, and you should own a copy.

If you’ve seen Judge Dredd, the 1996 Stallone film, you might be a bit wary. Heavy on the cheese and light on the respect for source material, it was a bit of a joke despite being a serviceable action flick. Stallone’s chewing of scenery and clunky delivery of the title character’s signature lines were regrettable at best. Between that and the unfortunate focus on DREDD’s 3D aspect (DREDD 3D! proclaimed the posters), it’s not hard to see why the film didn’t do so well at the box office.

I had the good fortune to see DREDD in the theatre, and that’s why I think you need to own it at home, on Blu-ray.
