Game of Thrones Season Three Hollywood Premiere

It's one of the most popular TV shows on the planet and Hollywood hosted the first ever premiere of the epic HBO program Game of Thrones. I was fortunate enough to attend the festivities - from the red carpet premiere at the famous Grauman's Chinese Theater to the cool after-party at the Roosevelt Hotel. An amazing night to celebrate an amazing show!

Hot on the heels of Jennifer Lawrence’s BEST ACTRESS win at the 2013 Academy Awards™, Lionsgate has capitalized beautifully on the media attention to launch their first promotional wave of art showcasing the cast of the next film in The Hunger Games franchise, Catching Fire. While Alliance owns the rights to the franchise in Canada, I’m sure they aren’t complaining about the marketing powerhouse being offered up for the film across the world. As an avid fan of the teen book series (no shame here folks), I always get a little giddy when information is leaked about the upcoming film...

Valentine’s Day is that time of the year where those hearts are showing more love than usual. Yes, I agree that we should express love everyday but February 14th wins for expressing a little extra romance.  Typically, Valentine’s Day is celebrated for people in relationships showing off their love for one another. For those who are single, turn this day into a celebration of life and divulge in self-love.

Whether you are single or in a relationship, here are the five steps to make Valentine’s Day extra special:

M2201491.jpgDredd is better than you think, and you should own a copy.

If you’ve seen Judge Dredd, the 1996 Stallone film, you might be a bit wary. Heavy on the cheese and light on the respect for source material, it was a bit of a joke despite being a serviceable action flick. Stallone’s chewing of scenery and clunky delivery of the title character’s signature lines were regrettable at best. Between that and the unfortunate focus on DREDD’s 3D aspect (DREDD 3D! proclaimed the posters), it’s not hard to see why the film didn’t do so well at the box office.

I had the good fortune to see DREDD in the theatre, and that’s why I think you need to own it at home, on Blu-ray.

Funky photo editing apps seem to pop out all the time in Apple’s App Store, but that isn’t always the case for video, which is why Game Your Video piqued my interest. This app offers some basic editing, but is more of a standout for the filters and effects it offers in turning a video into something far more interesting. For $0.99, it’s worth every penny.

Fringe ends tonight. Long live Fringe.

by Blogger on ‎01-18-2013 02:19 PM

fringe_wallpaper_hd-wide.jpg

An era ends tonight, as one of television’s best sci-fi dramas is about to come to a close. Shot in Vancouver, the wet-coast stand in for Boston, New York, Jacksonville, and everywhere in between, Fringe is a new age X-Files with an incredible cast and ridiculously awesome plotlines.

It shouldn’t have made it. The ratings for Fringe, despite being the best damned thing on television, have been horrendous over the years. Indeed, in spite of Joshua Jackson, Anna Torv, John Noble and Jasika Nicole’s stellar performances, we have all tuned in en masse to “talent” shows and “singing competitions”. Can you convey disgust in a blog? I hope I just did

Blu-ray Review: Pitch Perfect

Upon first glance, I wasn't so sure if I was going to like Pitch Perfect.  I don't know if it had to do with the singing (I'm not really a fan of musicals or music-themed tv shows or films) or the story, but the thought of watching it just wasn't what I had in mind for a weekday night.  But after caving in and sitting down with the movie I quickly realized how much I really, really liked it.  I was a little surprised, to say the least, but this goes to show that you probably shouldn't judge a film by its cover, no matter the genre.

Blu-ray Review: Ted

So what is it exactly about Seth MacFarlane's works that keeps people raving?  Is it the filthy humour? Clever dialogue? Unique and lovable characters?  Unabashed self-awareness? Playful pop cultural references? Love it or hate it, you can't deny the impact MacFarlane has made on millions of people, and there's nothing that he won't try.  Hell, even live-action doesn't seem quite so far-fetched anymore.

Blu-Ray Review: The Dark Knight Rises

“Oh, so you think darkness is your ally? But you merely adopted the dark. I was born in it, molded by it. I didn’t see the light until I was already a man, by then to me it was only blinding. The shadows betray you because they belong to me.”  --- Bane

Director Christopher Nolan's (Inception,The Prestige) epic conclusion to his Dark Knight  trilogy was certainly one of the cinematic events of the year. Stacked high with a long list of notable actors, a gigantic budget and an IMAX-sized productionThe Dark Knight Rises has the unenviable task of wrapping up the series while aiming to be the best movie of 2012.

Blu-ray Review: ParaNorman

You know the formula. Zombies are everywhere these days, tv shows, movies, comics, you name it, but how often do we get the chance to take sides with these shambling horrors?  ParaNorman, from the makers of Neil Gaiman's Coraline, defies everything we ever imagined from the horror genre.  This team isn't afraid to play with fire and does so with total gusto.
