Last Gen VS. Next Gen Consoles To Upgrade or Not to Upgrade?

Xbox One and PS4.jpg

If you are like me, a console gamer, every 5 or so years, you will be faced with a tough decision. When should you upgrade to the next generation of gaming consoles? Back in the earlier days of console gaming this was pretty obvious especially with the huge jumps in graphics and other related tech. Going from 8-bit machines(like the Nintendo Entertainment System) to 16-bit machine (like the SEGA Genesis and the Super Nintendo) was like a dream come true everything was such a huge change, graphics, sounds and games all had major upgrades. These days however, the reasons to upgrade aren’t quite as straight forward.

Amiibo Skylanders Disney Infinity figures.jpg

Interactive video game figures have, in a matter of only three years, taken the games industry by storm. This craze began with Activision's Skylanders series, and kicked into high-gear with the emergence of Disney Infinity last summer. Now, as we approach the crucial holiday season, Nintendo has thrown its hat into the ring with their upcoming Amiibo line of interactive figures. It's going to be an exciting next few months as new video games and figures for all three of these series come to market. To help you prepare, here's an overview of what each toy figure line has to offer!

Pikmin 3 - 12.jpg

Back-to-school always marks the beginning of gaming's biggest season and one look at August's release schedule will show that the flood of great games has begun.  There are some heavy-hitting sequels to popular game franchises such as Lost Planet, Saints Row, Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell and Madden NFL Football, along with the launch of Disney Infinity, the next big franchise from Disney Interactive Studios.  Of course there's also Pikmin 3, which Nintendo hopes will breathe new life into their Wii U console, and spearheads a string of major upcoming releases from Nintendo.

Pandora's Tower - Review

by Guest Blogger on ‎07-08-2013 07:16 PM - last edited on ‎07-08-2013 10:29 PM by Blogger

The Nintendo Wii will probably be one of the consoles I never box up, some of the games on it were just out of this world! Games like Super Mario Galaxy made sure we all knew Nintendo didn't need HD graphics to wow us, and Mad World made sure even mature gamers took note of the system (even if it was only in a few colours). Most of all, people will never forget how the goofy-named console with a strange controller that made you "waggle"  took the world in a frenzy. Even though its time might be running out as the Wii U starts to gain steam, it makes me very happy to see a game like Pandora's Tower finally make its release here in North America in the consoles final years.

Most Anticipated Video Games For April 2013

by Blogger ‎03-31-2013 09:53 PM - edited ‎03-31-2013 09:57 PM

Coming off such a blockbuster March gaming line-up, it's a bit of a relief to have a quieter April, especially since I'm sure many of us are still working through the games we picked up last month.  With that said, April has its fair share of notable games, headlined by NetherRealms Studios' much-anticipated DC Universe fighting game Injustice: Gods Among Us

We've also got the video game tie-in to the upcoming TV show Defiance (filmed in Toronto by the way), and the brand-new Star Trek video game for consoles (developed in London, ON).   April is also delivering Dead Island: Riptide, the sequel to 2011's surprise hit open world zombie survival game, and PlayStation Vita gets Soul Sacrifice, the new action role-playing game from acclaimed gamer producer Keiji Inafune (best known for co-designing Mega Man).

Let's take a look at the games!

Review: LEGO Lord of the Rings

by Blogger ‎01-11-2013 08:39 PM - edited ‎01-12-2013 01:32 PM

The LEGO video game franchise never ceases to entertain me.  It’s one of the few game franchises that delivers consistent quality with every iteration, and while critics often cite the lack of innovation, all you have to do is go back to 2005’s LEGO Star Wars to see just how far this franchise has come.  Lord of the Rings is the latest movie license to get the LEGO treatment, bringing with it all the wit and charm that is synonymous with this franchise.  LEGO Lord of the Rings is the most daring LEGO adventure yet, delivering hours of action and excitement the whole family will enjoy.

Last night the 2012 Spike Video Game Awards aired, showcasing the biggest and best games of the year across all gaming platforms. The runaway winner this year was The Walking Dead: The Game by Telltale Games, which won for Game of the Year, Best Adapted Video Game, and Best Downloadable Game.  Telltale Games had even more to celebrate with their game development studio winning the award for Studio of the Year.
