Plantronics RIG Gaming Headset + Mixer - Review

by Blogger on ‎03-05-2014 08:27 PM - last edited on ‎03-07-2014 09:34 AM by Blog Editor in Chief

Plantronics RIG - full system.jpg

When researching over-the-ear headphones, the first aspect I always pay attention to is what device(s) it’s designed for, be it PC, smartphones/tablets, or gaming consoles.  I want to make sure first and foremost that the headphones are compatible with the devices I have in mind, but moreover, I want the assurance that they’re also optimized for those same devices.  So, for example, it’s vitally important that over-the-ear headphones for my iPhone have a sturdy headband to keep them firmly in place while listening on-the-go. Conversely, for a PC or gaming headphones, having crystal clear mic audio is definitely a must-have, but I also want to make sure the headphones remain comfortable for long gaming sessions.

I was very pleasantly surprised, then, when I realized that the Plantronics RIG stereo Headset + Mixer made my preliminary research easy – as it was designed to be a true all-in-one stereo headset. Not only is the headset created with the comfort and quality needed for intense PC or console gaming, but it is also designed to quickly and easily convert into portable headphones for listening to music on-the-go. As I looked further into the product, I got even more excited because of the included mixer – the system's central component that allows you to seamlessly switch between, or mix, your game and phone audio. Recently, I was lucky enough to get my hands on sample Plantronics RIG unit, and I have to say, it really is as great as it seems.

Toukiden The Age of Demons - cover art.jpg

The PS Vita has quickly established itself as the portable gaming console of choice for fans of action game titles, with Toukiden: The Age Of Demons from Tecmo Koei joining the ranks of superb action-oriented games such as Soul Sacrifice, Dragon's Crown, and Gravity Rush.

In Toukiden, players assume the role of a new recruit for a formerly clandestine group of demon slayers driven to reveal themselves after a massive influx of netherworld demons, known as Oni, launched a full-scale invasion of Japan. The LEGO Movie Videogame - Great game for PlayStation 3 & Xbox 360

The LEGO Movie Videogame - logo.jpg

The LEGO Movie Videogame might just have the distinction of being Warner Bros.'s first video game based on a movie based on a children's toy. Adapted from the highly successful full-length theatrical release, the video game lets players step into the world of Emmet Brickowski, a completely ordinary LEGO minifigure swept into an extraordinary adventure to stop an evil tyrant bent on destroying the LEGO universe.

If you and your family enjoyed the film (my view: it's fantastic!) and want to extend the adventure, then The LEGO Movie Videogame will surely delight.

If you're curious about what PlayStation Now will mean for the PlayStation brand, and the larger gaming industry, read on as I explain what this service is, and why it could change the game forever.

Killzone Mercenary - Review

by Guest Blogger on ‎10-31-2013 09:35 PM - last edited on ‎11-01-2013 11:44 AM by Blog Editor in Chief

mercenary.jpg

I’m a huge science fiction junky. Books, comics, TV shows, movies, anime and video games keep me up to my eyeballs in sci-fi goodness. I can trace this mild obsession back to one thing, first person shooter video games. DOOM had me fighting demon aliens on the moons of mars, Half-Life had me take on the horrible events of Gordon Freemans crazy adventure and countless other games had me wielding amazing weapons and fighting foes of all shapes, sizes and species. One thing the FPS genre has always been lacking in though is mobile gaming. There have been a handful of decent games on a few platforms but they always had problems with them. Controls that relied too much on auto-targeting, hand cramping due to unique control schemes(I’m looking at you Metroid Prime Hunters…), lackluster stories filled with cardboard characters and a whole list of other problems many related to the limitations of handheld consoles. There is hope though, the PS Vita offers a console experience in the palm of your hands and Killzone Mercenary is the sci-fi FPS I have been waiting for.

Rayman Legends - Review

Rayman.jpg

If there's one thing Rayman Legends wants to make abundantly clear, it's that this is a game designed for pure fun. Everything about it, from the whimsical cast of characters, to the vibrant colour palette, to the jubilant soundtrack, to the inspired level design, oozes with delight and merriment. Not since Super Mario World has a sidescrolling platforming game entertained as much as Rayman Legends, easily positioning it as one of the best of its genre.

The best-selling and critically acclaimed video game series The Walking Dead has arrived on PS Vita, packing all five Episodes from Season 1, along with the recently released 400 Days downloadable special episode.  With more than 17 million episodes sold worldwide, and availability on nearly all major gaming platforms, it's hard to imagine who exactly this version is targeted at, but if you've somehow missed playing The Walking Dead, and own a PS Vita, picking up a copy will be one of the best gaming decisions you've ever made.

Dragon's Crown - Review

Dragon’s Crown has been talked about for a long time; in fact, it turns out, the art director George Kamitani came up with the idea of this game almost 15 years! The first time I heard about it was in an article about how the game was sexist, due to its controversial depictions of the many characters within the game. A little while ago I was offered the privilege of reviewing the game to which I eagerly jumped at it. If you can look past the over-the-top aspects such as the large breasts, rippling muscles, sometimes skimpy costumes and excentric art style, Dragon’s Crown is a great take on a classic arcade genre that is rarely done this well.
