When should I upgrade my TV?

by Blogger on ‎07-15-2014 06:47 AM - last edited on ‎07-15-2014 08:43 AM by Blog Editor in Chief

TVs are appliances we replace every four years or longer. This is becuase TV's are big ticket items and costly and also because we tend to buy the best TVs we can at the time. Being the centre of our home theatre experience, TVs play the crucial part of being both the hub and the focal point of our entertainment, streaming, gaming and viewing needs.

TV technology evolves quickly and in various ways. Thinner, larger screens are what people look at the most but the underlying technologies (i.e. LCD, IPS, Plasma, LED) as well as peripheral features (speakers, SmartTV functionality, WiFi, Netflix integration, 3D) are all features that vary in importance to different users and which make the selection of an HDTV even more challenging.

But when is it the right time to upgrade an HDTV? Let's discuss some good reasons to spring for a new set.

Compared: Canon's Rebel T5 and Rebel T5i Digital SLR Cameras

by Blogger on ‎07-09-2014 10:36 AM - last edited on ‎07-14-2014 01:04 PM by Blog Editor in Chief

The letter i has been an important distinction for many brands over the past few years; notably adding it to “Pod”, “Phone”, and “Pad” has been a recipe for success for a certain brand. Canon has had “i” added to their Tx line of cameras since the venerable T2i, and the T5i was the latest in this line-up in 2013.

In early 2014 Canon announcing the upcoming release of a new camera in the Tx family: the T5. It was like the T5i - better in some feature categories, while the T5i was better in others. Suitably confused yet? Yeah, me too. That’s why we’re taking a look at these cameras today and deciphering who they’re for, because there’s an audience for both. Let’s get moving and find out which one is right for you, yeah?

Review: Monster iSport Strive, iSport Intensity, iSport Victory and iSport Freedom headphones

by Blogger on ‎07-09-2014 10:14 AM - last edited on ‎07-10-2014 11:44 AM by Blog Editor in Chief

Friends, gather ‘round. We’re gonna talk headphones here in what is essentially two different reviews. First up: we’re going to talk about Monster’s iSport earbuds - I’ve got three models to cover: the Strive, the Intensity, and the Victory, all with varying levels of noise isolation. Second on the docket is Monster’s iSport Freedom, a very different beast indeed. All four models are made for listeners who are engaging in a more active lifestyle… and as someone who has developed a passionate hatred for headphones and earphones while working out, I’m bringing a skeptical eye to the table.

I’m ready, Monster. Come at me, bro.

Review: Lorex Wireless Video Surveillance System and Lorex Wireless Security Camera System

by Blogger on ‎07-09-2014 12:39 AM - last edited on ‎07-09-2014 04:54 PM by Blog Editor in Chief

There are plenty of things that leave me feeling insecure. Public speaking on short notice. Barbecuing in front of a group of male friends. Having my bike stolen from my patio.

There’s a solution for all of these, but out of the three, only protecting my bike is something I can solve without therapy. That’s where Lorex comes in; I’ve talked about Lorex in the past (that’s Lorex Security cameras, not the Lorax who speaks for the trees) and I liked their wireless products. I have two new options from Lorex with me today: The Wireless Video Surveillance System and the Wireless Security Camera System. They have similar names, and do similar jobs, but there’s one pretty cool difference that sets them apart. Let’s take a look.

Mario Golf World Tour on Nintendo 3DS.jpg

Even before Mario was perilously dodging Piranha Plants and bopping Goombas on the head in the original Super Mario Bros. game, the famed mustached plumber was keeping active on the placid greens in Golf, a leisurely golfing simulation game for the original NES. Thirty years later and Mario’s still out to prove he’s the king of the swing in Mario Golf: World Tour, an all-new golfing sports title available exclusively for Nintendo 3DS.

Philips Hue is a bright idea for your smart home

The light bulb has always been tied to access to electricity going back to the time Thomas Edison invented it. Since then, the technology has evolved to more than just incandescent bulbs, with LEDs now starting to gain traction in the market. And one of the beauties of LEDs like the Philips Hue, is that they can cover the colour gamut, making it possible to light up a room with shades and gradients for true ambience. Your home Wi-Fi network is all you need to change the lighting dynamics in your living space.
