Future Shop Celebrates 10 years of Creating Opportunit ies for Canadian Youth!
I’m very pleased to share that this weekend Future Shop is celebrating 10 years of supporting Canada’s youths through the Future Leaders scholarship program. The program was created 10 years ago to award deserving youth of Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada with $4000 scholarships towards their post-secondary education.
Tomorrow, at more than 20 Future Shop stores from coast-to-coast, we’re awarding this year’s Future Leaders recipients as well as we’ll recognize our milestone anniversary with Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada. To date, 520 young Canadians have received Future Leaders scholarships, totaling more than $1.5 million to education. And every one of these recipients carries an amazing story. I wanted to share with you some of the incredible success stories from two of our deserving winners in the last ten years:
Majda Miljkovic: She escaped her war-torn country of Bosnia to have a better life in Canada. Barely speaking English upon arrival, she found comfort with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Winnipeg and is now on the path to become a teacher. Watch her story:
Yosef Saraka: Growing up, Yosef was in need of strong male role models. He found this and more at the age of 11 after his mother enrolled him in the Boys & Girls of Ottawa. Now a graduate of Carleton University’s Sprott School of Business, Yosef is an auditor for renown firm, PriceWaterhouseCoopers. See his story:
At Future Shop, we are so pleased with the incredible achievements of these impressive young people. We congratulate the 520 recipients of the Future Leaders Scholarships who celebrate us and also want to recognize the ongoing support of youth by our national partner, Boys and Girls Clubs of Canada.
Good luck to our 2010 recipients as you enter your studies this September!
