Future Shop donates state-of-t he-art Tech Lab classrooms to high schools across Canada.
It’s a unique opportunity to help make teachers and Principals feel like a hero to their students and Future Shop was happy to be a part of that experience earlier this week. On Monday, Future Shop announced major donations to help select schools across Canada boost the technology offered to current and future students through the donation of $300,000 to benefit six high schools across Canada. Before we could even let one teacher know the news, he saw our logo and began jumping with excitement knowing what surprise was about to be told to his class.
How were we able to make this happen? Future Shop’s Future Generation Tech Lab program donates $50,000 to each of these schools in the communities our stores serve. That money will go a long way; the schools are welcome to use it based on their needs to fulfill lacking technology in their classrooms. Since Tech Lab launched in 2007, we’ve seen classrooms transform from dated domains to vibrant, exciting multimedia centres with technologies ranging from the latest in computing to state-of-the-art laser-engraving machinery.
Congratulations to the six schools below. Here is a brief description of how they’ll use their donation, along with some photos of the classrooms our local Future Shop store General Managers visited this week:
Burnaby North Secondary School (Burnaby, BC): With dated computers equaling one for every 18 students, and as one of the largest school’s in BC, new technology and a small renovation will take place to carry out their media and broadcast classes, offered to eight school districts.
NorKam Secondary School (Kamloops, BC): Modern technology will be acquired to provide best-in-class Video and Media Technology courses which currently offers eight refurbished or donated computers and video cameras.
St. Joseph’s Catholic High School (Windsor, ON): Just four computers fulfill multimedia and art classes, limiting course offerings. The Future Generation Tech Lab money will be spent to purchase better equipment and spruce up the classroom space.
Highland Secondary School (Dundas, ON): Machinery that was installed 45 years ago when the school was built can finally retire thanks to the Future Generation Tech Lab donation. The money will be put towards outfitting the classroom into a learning hub for students interested in communications, machinery and Custom Car Design and Drafting services.
L’école secondaire publique Omer-Deslauriers (Ottawa, ON): With more than 70 different countries representing the student population, their donation will go towards building a modern Tech Lab offering learning audio and video montages, animation, web design and more.
L’école secondaire Cavelier-De LaSalle (Montreal, QC): Moral and productivity among students at this school will be evident once their new Tech Lab is built. The donation is benefiting three programs and 25 classes offering teachings on communications and helping students with learning disabilities.
I’m looking forward to seeing the new Tech Lab classroom unveilings in September!
