This week Pioneer’s new line of AV Receivers launch in Future Shop. These receivers carry some great new features that are further explained in the Tech Spotlight; rather than reiterate the points in the Tech Spotlight I want to touch on one application that our new VSX-1020-K represents a revolutionary change: multi-room/zone audio distribution, or more simply outdoor speakers through our new iPhone/iPod Touch Control App.
For years many AV Receivers have had the ability to connect a second pair of speakers to deliver sound to a separate room, or zone. While many people consider this when they may purchase the receiver, once home it has often been overlooked because of the difficulty of controlling the secondary zone. Any time you wanted to adjust the volume you had to run back into the room with the AV receiver. This could be addressed by investing more into the system through additional control systems often requiring professional installation. Simpler Infrared based multi-room control systems couldn’t be used effectively outdoors either because of interference from the sun.
Pioneer’s VSX-1020-K offers the solution when paired with Pioneer’s free iControl AV application available through Apple’s App Store for the iPhone/iPod Touch. The iControl AV app delivers control of the VSX-1020-K’s functions directly from the iPhone through your home’s wireless network – the VSX-1020 itself requires a direct connection to your router or a separate wireless bridge. Now you can more effectively deliver audio to secondary zones in your home including outdoor speakers.
