This past long-weekend, we installed 5 new endcaps in Future Shop stores. These endcaps are pre-release versions of our new 46" HX 800 series televisions. What is great about these sets is that they are upgradable to 3D. Just add the transmitter and some glasses and the television is ready for 3D.
We have teamed up the HX800 with the BDPS470 3D-ready Blu-ray (we received some pre-release firmware to enable 3D Blu-ray playback) and the HT-SF470 Home Theatre. We have reps working at all the locations during the high traffic periods of the day to answer questions and show you some of our great new demo material:
- Landsdowne - Richmond, B.C.
- Coquitlam Centre - Coquitlam, B.C.
- Heartland - Toronto, Ontario
- Downtown - Toronto, Ontario
- Marche Central - Montreal, Quebec
What is really cool is that we can show you movie trailers like Alice in Wonderland, sports like FIFA soccer and NCAA Football, video game content like Motorstorm and even outdoor content like you would see on the Discovery/Sony/IMAX 3D channel. So whatever kind of content you are interested in you'll be able to see it at the demo. This is really key to figuring out what 3D means to you as a viewer.
The HX800 series is a beautiful monolithic design set, a single sheet of glass design. Because we are using our Dynamic Edge LED technology, the colours are crisp and vibrant with nice dark blacks. When in 3D mode, we use a technology called 3D boost that pumps up the level of brightness, so that the set is just as bright in 3D as it is in 2D. The other picture quality elements to look for are the accuracy of the skin tones and the detail in the dark areas. This is a top of the line set with a beautiful picture.
The HX800 and other Sony sets are now up on the Future Shop website, so if you are interested in the specs, go ahead and check it out. If you live in Toronto, Vancouver or Montreal, it is definitely worth your while to check out the in-store demo.
