Just a heads up that not all stores may have gotten the memo yet.

I just tried to pre-order in-store at the FS near Thickson and the 401 in Whitby, Ontario and was told that they were not accepting in-store pre-orders and that I had to order online. I showed the sales rep the conversation in this thread and he said that not all stores were doing this (that it should have said "selected stores" rather than "all stores").

Also should add that when I try to order online, In-Store Pickup (what the sales rep said to use) is not selectable.

In-store pickup is never available for preorders, even if you can make pre-orders in-store. The reason for this is the system is based off of store stock for in-store pickup. Since there is no stock available, the system cannot process an order for pickup.

I just pre-ordered my copy at a futureshop, the one on Harmony, and everything went fine. They even said I could pick it up when it was released.

Now I'm confused. What is the point of pre-ordering the CE in-store? I didn't pay the full price ... does this mean I may be confronted with a "Sorry, we're sold out" when I go to the midnight release (if there will be one).

Charquoise, Juice's post is only referring to online orders, ie. you can't pre-order online and have the option to pick-up in-store. Since you pre-ordered in-store, you should have no problem picking up in-store at release. 

Going by Godwin's posts, stores have been allotted a limited guaranteed number of CE's, regardless of online pre-orders, which is what you reserved. So you should be good to go!

Yeah, reading my post now it is a little vague if taken as a general response. You're right debaser, I was referring to online orders. Anyone who orders in-store will be able to get their order from in-store.

Note though, that when you pre-order in-store, you can only pick up your item from the store you preordered at.

Hoping I can help explain the situation a little more regarding Diablo 3 CE.

We have 1000 units allocated for pre-orders right now for stores to pre-order. Once stores have hit this number, we will stop in-store pre-orders. These 1000 customers will be guaranteed a unit as each store will be shipped the exact amount of pre-orders that were taken.

We are moving thru a ton of CE versions right now so this is the best way to "guarantee" your copy of Diablo 3CE.
