Trade in Games/Used Games FAQ

Hi everyone, here is an updated FAQ section for "Trade in Games/Used Games". A lot of info can be found at www.futureshop.ca/usedgames; hopefully the below FAQ are helpful!

The following is a FAQ for Used Games. Please take the time to review it before posting a question or issue.

How it works.

Bring your previously played games to any participating Future Shop location. Go to the Gaming Section in the store and one of our Entertainment associates will let you know the value of your games at the Trade-in Station.

  • Receive the trade-in amount in the form of a Future Shop gift card
  • Use your gift card to purchase anything* in the store or online at futureshop.ca.

*Valid at all store locations except Calgary locations, where gift card must be used applied to the purchase of a new or used video game. Trade in values change regularly, so see any of our gaming associates for the most recent valuation. All trade-ins must be in working condition with original case.

Stuff you need to know.
Only games for the following consoles are valid for trade-in: Sony PlayStation 3 (PS3), PlayStation Portable (PSP), Xbox 360, Nintendo DS and Wii. Some games (to be determined at the Trade-in Station) will not be valid for trade-in value. PC games are not accepted.

You can trade in a maximum of three (3) of the same game per day per person. Games must be playable and include with the original case.  ID must be presented where required by law.

The value of titles will be determined by the Trade-in Station at the time of trade-in.

Used games cannot be traded in or purchased at futureshop.ca. The gift card received for trading in games is valid at futureshop.ca.

Future Shop Used Games Guarantee

There’s a 30-day guarantee on all used games. Used games are inspected for quality assurance. If there’s a problem, we’ll exchange it for the same game or provide an in-store credit. See below for details.

Buy it online, return it in-store.
Need to exchange or refund your futureshop.ca purchase? Just follow these steps:

  1. Print out your purchase receipt from MY ORDERS.
  2. Bring your receipt, packing slip and used game purchase to any Future Shop retail store for an exchange or full refund with 30 days.
  3. Our customer service department will help you with your exchange or will refund the full value of your purchase. The funds will be applied to your credit card within seven (7) days.

What type of used games can be traded in at Future Shop?  Can you trade in used games not purchased at Future Shop?
Video games from the following consoles are valid for sale or trade-in: Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, and Xbox 360.

We accept games whether purchased at Future Shop or at another retailer.  Please note acceptance of game specific titles are subject to change based on inventory. Games are tested, cleaned and repackaged prior to being merchandised at our stores.

How is the value of used game trade-ins assessed?
The trade-in value of the used games is determined by our National Inventory Control System. To confirm what the current value is for your trade-in, please go to the Trade-in terminal located in the gaming department of participating stores. Customers are assured that our used games are sold in good condition and are guaranteed to be priced lower than a new purchased price.

How is the sales price of used game trade determined?
It is system priced by our National Inventory Control System. Customers are assured that our used games are sold in good condition and are guaranteed to be priced lower than a new purchase price.

Thanks everyone, feel free to contact me if there are questions or concerns.

Re: Trade in Games/Used Games FAQ

Say I trade in Dungeon Seige 3 and maybe Dragon Age Orgins (both in top condition, manual and recently bought) for Dead Island what is the price range for Dead Island after I trade these games?

Re: Trade in Games/Used Games FAQ

Since trade in values fluctuate frequently, the best way to find out the value of your used game is to visit your local FS to find out!

Re: Trade in Games/Used Games FAQ

Can this section be updated? There are a few things that are now out of date and there are also a few things missing.

Perhaps addressing the "Not for Resale" / Missing/wrong UPC issue would be a good start!

Also, adding PS Vita and 3DS games to the list of games that can be traded in.

It also says that used games cannot be purchased on futureshop.ca...

Thanks

p.s. "Customers are assured that our used games are sold in good condition and are guaranteed to be priced lower than a new purchase price"... is that "guarantee" enforced? Because I've seen many new games being sold cheaper than they are being sold used for...

Hi,

You need to send this info along to your stores as well. I was shot-down doing a trade by a new employee tonight because he was worried my UPC did not match.

I will be back tomorrow to complete my trade at another store, something I should not have to do.

Thanks!

Man, I hear you!  This happened to me once on a game I bought used from Future Shop.  I went to trade it in about a month later and they refused to let me trade it in because the barcode wasn't scanning up in their trade system!  What a joke! :smileyfrustrated:

You shouldn't have to be making another trip and they're lucky you're even considering going back.  Maybe you shouldn't go back just to take a stand and show them that this type of treatment is unacceptable.

PLEASE Future Shop, PLEEEEEAAAASE get your policies straight and educate your employees! :smileyindifferent:
