Windows 8 editions revealed

Microsoft has revealed the various editions of Windows 8.  It has been reduced to mainly three (3)(*), down from the previous five main editions (plus one for Enterprise for a total of six) associated with Windows 7.

 

- Windows 8:  the standard version, for the consumer market (x86/x64)

- Windows 8 Pro:  for technical professionals, business customers, enthusiasts (x86/x64)

- Windows RT:  for low-powered PCs/tablets running ARM CPUs (previously known as "Windows on ARM" or "WoA")

(*) there will be 4th... this one is a Pro version with addtiional features for enterprise customers with software contracts, just like Windows 7 Enterprise.
