I think you meant to post this question in the Home Theatre section.
To answer your question, try to use the Whitewash option on your Plasma or LCD TV as little as possible. It can and will shorten the life of the TV. It is meant to be used to reduce or combat image retention of logos and such on the screen. It should be used sparringly, and only when needed.
Ultimately, if your TV has been properly broken in, then you should never have need of the Whitewash option.
