Gateway is wholly-owned by Acer, one of the top manufacturers in the world.  If quantity and size doesn't impress you, then I'm sure there will be other people posting their opinions too.

I've never owned a Gateway, so I cannot say for sure what kind of quality they have, but I think of them as being like Acer.  They're a value brand and so the build quality is not as premium as some other brands like HP Pavillion or Sony VAIO laptops and netbooks.
