Laptop on Sony TV

I have hooked up my toshiba L500 series laptop to my Sony 52" TV.  I only get a small picture displayed.  I am at the highest resolution that will show something, anything higher and the TV is blank.

 

Is it possible to get a full size laptop image on my tv?

Often a TV will accept the signal from you computer but will only work well with one resolution supported by the TV.  Check your TV manual, it will probably be 1360 x 768 or something similar.  Once you get the one that's just right it should fill the screen.
