Hooking up laptop to HDTV via HDMI ... black border on TV

Hello,

I am hooking up my

Gateway 15.6" Intel Core I3-330M 2.13GHz Laptop (NV5905H): http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/gateway-gateway-15-6-intel-core-i3-330m-2-13ghz-laptop-nv5905...

to my

Samsung 46" 1080p 120Hz LCD HDTV** (LN46C610): http://www.futureshop.ca/en-CA/product/samsung-samsung-46-1080p-120hz-lcd-hdtv-ln46c610-ln46c610n1fx...

via HDMI.

I am getting audio and video, but there is a fairly large (I'd say around 2 to 3 inches) black border that surrounds the projected image on the TV.  Is this likely an issue with the computer or TV?  Does anyone know how to get around this such that image is enlarged to fit the screen?

Thanks!

Check the resolution on the laptop, to output to a TV at full 1080p you'll need to set it to 1650 x 1080.

Hi Jesse,

To correct the poster above, 1080p is actually 1920x1080.  I too had the same problem when connecting my PC to my 1080p Sony Bravia.  I actually found out after many weeks of trying to solve the problem that its likely the connection TYPE that is causing the problem.  I was running a DVI - HDMI cable from my PC and getting a screen that didn't actually fit (unlike you, I wasn't able to see it all, even with both my PC and TV set at 1080p output).

I switched over and connected my PC with a DVI - VGA adapter and VGA cable and poof, it worked perfect.  I'm using this product right HERE.

Hope this helps, it fixed my problem.
