Considering I'm close to finishing my PhD, I won't be working at Future Shop any time soon (or ever, I hope)... Once I'm done, I'll be looking for work in my field.
This is my hobby, not my job. Besides I've worked in retail for years and don't want to again - don't get me wrong, I'm a good sales person, but I got sick of dealing with cranky customers face to face and managers pushing targets (the funny part is that most managers I worked with eventually stopped giving me targets altogether because I got a lot more sales when I didn't have big targets putting pressure on me - I still had them, but they just didn't tell me what they were).

I can't actually list most of them as they could be considered competitors to Future Shop, but I did a denim store one summer and worked at two of Canada's oldest national retailers (including one that went out of business and was bought out, and another that is now the official Olympic clothing supplier).
If I can give you some advice, check out McDonalds. They have an amazing training program and really emphasize team work, and believe it or not, it actually looks really good on your resume to have worked there (especially for someone just starting out in the workforce). I did a brief stint there right after my first year of university and I know it influenced my ability to be hired at my other jobs (I know because 2 other places that hired me after told me so).

I'm thinking about trying to get hired at a fast food resturant.
Perhaps I will try at those places extra early next year.
You can PM me the places if you have the time ![]()
Do you have MSN or something?
Thanks Krypto.

I'm an Assistant Manager at a McDonalds...any questions?...just ask. ![]()
We have a very good training program for crew and managers, I did my management courses at the Toronto head office...it was a lot of fun actually! There's more going on behind the counter than people realize. I've been there for a little over 1.5 years and I'm amazed at how much I've learned. I worked at a 401 location and it was tough...I won't sugar-coat it...I know all about dealing with difficult people (as mentioned earlier), it builds you as a person.
As a crew person you learn to work the different areas of the restaurant, as a manager you balance labour, deal with cash, product deliveries, inventories, deal with your crew and customers, and you are an ambassador to customer service...period! Our business is customer driven and this what we instill in our crew and managers. Being a crew person or a manager, you get out of it what you are willing to put into it. We work very hard to train our crew to be the best they can be while the owners/operators and restaurant managers do what they can to develop us managers to be the best we can be.
A happy team is a productive team, my crew get a kick out of me when I drink Red Bull...I floor some of them...its hilarious! We have so much fun.

Hi manvir88jatt,
You need to go to www.futureshop.ca/careers, click on "Retail Opportunities" then look for the store you want to aplly to - click on the link, then at the bottom of the page you should see "Apply online now" - fill out that application. Should be all you need to do!
If you have any trouble, send me a Private Message and I'll help get you sorted.

Hey,
I'm from Peterborough and all summer I have been applying to Future Shop. The problem is, Monster.ca keeps posting new jobs at Future Shop for Peterborough. I've seen roughly 6 or so this summer. Every month they post a new one. However, when I go to the website to apply for retail, there aren't any jobs listed for Peterborough. I've tried Future Opportunities, but that doesn't seem to work. So how am I supposed to apply for a job in Peterborough when the Future Shop website doesn't even have them listed? One was posted on Monster.ca just on the 17th of August, but I can't apply for it.
