Ice Shots
It was actualy about 15 degrees that day, we were out in an 18 foot boat about 100 feet off the icebergs. Polarizing filter really helped that day as the sun was washing out all the blues. You just don't realize how big these things are until you get close to one and you can see the reflection of the sun bouncing of the 8/9th of the iceberg that is under the water. Most of these things get "grounded" in the bays and coves around Newfoundland.

This is another shot to try and give a perspective against the land.

p.s. as of last week, we had approx. 900 of these floating in the waters around the northern and northeastern coasts of the Island.

Loud cracking noise
Actually, I had attempted to get closer but about 10 minutes into maneuvering around taking surface shots, there came a loud cracking noise. The forces on these things as they are moved by the ocean's current while being grounded to the ocean floor are tremendous as you can imagine. When you hear the loud crack you learn to walk on water and get as far away as possible.

p.s. on a side note...if you have ever heard of IceBerg Vodka, this is where it comes from. Iceberg's are harvested and the fresh water is used in the making of Vodka and other spirits. Do a search on it, it's actually quite amazing.
