God of War 3

Just finished playing the demo of this and I must say at first I wasn't all that impressed but as the demo pushed foward it got really good and gets that epic feeling I got from the first two. The lighting effects in this game are amazing some of the best I have seen it left me wanting to play awhole lot more. Being a huge fan of God of War one thing I can say for certain about God of War III that is when they said there will be Chaos they ment it.  Anyone interested in playing the demo it now available to the public through the PS3's online store.  Anyone interested in pre-ordering the game can do so by clicking on the thumbnail on the left.

For anyone new to the series and maybe not interested in playing the first 2 or 3 if you own a PSP here's a good video to get you up to speed on Krato's journey.  If you are interested in playing the first 2 games I suggest not watching the video and if you do not currently own them you can click on God of War Collection thumbnail to the left to order online or visit your nearest Future Shop.

I have heard this is a kick-ass series, but have never gotten around to buying and playing 1 and 2!

Sounds cool though.  But I am three games behind!

GreatGreg, you really do have to play this series.  They are some of the greatest action/adventure games of the last ten years and are highly revered by the majority of the gaming community.  If you can somehow grab the first two, I immediately would before picking up the third one in a few weeks.  Each of them can be blown through in a few nights of semi-casual play, and then you'll be up to speed on Kratos' adventure and fairly familiar with the general control schemes that are utilized (not that they are hard to pick up).

Jay, I've been trying to avoid everything to do with the game (demo, videos, etc.) but I'm glad to see you're as excited as I am.  The media seems to be completely floored by it so far.

It's too bad that Future Shop didn't have the Ultimate Edition available for pre-order.  I ordered it from a competitor.  I don't personally own a PS3, but I bought the game anyway because I wanted what was in the Ultimate Edition and I can play the game when I (eventually) get the system.  The game looks great and I can't wait to try it when I get a PS3 :smileyhappy:

I am fortunate enough that the Merivale Rd. Future Shop in Ottawa will be open at midnight for GOW3. As far as I know, it is the only store that will be open for a midnight release, including other Future Shops,  (Competitor). The best series of all-time is finally hitting PS3!!!

Re: God of War 3

To be honest, I've never been a fan of the GoW series. I'm willing to give this fella a go, but I gave a gentleman's try to one of the first two a while back and then again when I purchased a PSP during promotion and got Chains of Olympus free, but after an hour or so I'd just get bored and trade them in.

I know my brother and friends will probably be grabbing it on the first day of release, so we'll see if this changes my attitude toward GoW!

1 and 2 were both released before I even gave GoW a go, but once I put that disc into my Ps3 I was glued to it for a few days it just felt refreshing to play and gave me a break from all the FPS games I was playing at the time. I been playing alot of Modern Warfare 2 this past month or so and I was tempted to get Dante's Inferno instead but resisted because I tryed the demo and the control scheme was to much like GoW so I rented the anime instead.

To be honest Evan_F if you were not a fan of the first two then I'm really not sure if you will be into the 3rd one. It offers better graphics, Bigger areas, more monsters on the screen at once , a few more weapons and combo animations, more epic boss boss battles??(won't know until its released)  and continue's the story where the 2nd one left off alot of what was put into God of War 3 were ideas they had for the first 2 but the Ps2 just did not have the power to pull it off the way the developers wanted.

Like I mentioned above I never played GoW until they both were already released and I played them on my PS3 at that so I already had played many games with better graphics,  although for a Ps2 game it did look really good, it wasnt what sucked me into GoW though it was the package as a whole that worked for me ,the presentation, the story, the sound , the graphics,  the story and ummm the story.

Little has changed in the gameplay department,  any fan of the series will be able to pick up the controller and feel at home again in the gameplay department from my experience with the demo, so if that type of combat just wasn't for you in the first 2 chances are it's still not going to be.    Then again in my opinion the gameplay was just about perfect in the first 2 so there wasnt much left to polish up.

I seen a post that has a screenshot of a leaked review from Ign and it's showing a 10/10 "masterful" score, this could be fake but a few weeks before Modern Warfare 2 there was a leaked Ign review of that and it was bang on so who knows.

Re: God of War 3

Thanks for the heads up, Jay!

It's been about two years since GoW: CO came out and a few more years since I had tried one of the first two and between that time gap my gaming interests have broadened a bit-- I figure if people I know are picking it up, no harm in borrowing it! :smileyhappy:

A few years ago, I probably would have dumped a game like Darksiders into the same action/adventure pile that I didn't play too often, but I was bored enough to give it a shot when it came out and was pleasantly surprised.
