What do I do if I have an...
Acer Desktop
These are serviced and repaired in store. Future Shop technicians will diagnose and order parts from Acer in order to repair your computer. Bring it to your nearest Future Shop.
Acer Notebook
Futureshop can facilitate these repairs for you or you may also contact Acer directly. When bringing your laptop into Futureshop, you will need the power adapter and your original receipt. When contacting Acer directly you would need to ship the laptop to the nearest Acer repair depot. It will be diagnosed, repaired and sent back to you. You need to create a ticket either by calling Acer at 1-800-816-2237 or their website www.fixmyacer.com.
Apple Desktop/Notebook
Future Shop has a Rapid Repair program in place to let Futureshop quickly facilitate repairs on these products. You also can get your your computer repaired by bringing it into an Apple Store, Apple Authorized Repair Depot, or by calling Apple at 1-800-MY APPLE.
Asus
Futureshop can facilitate these repairs for you or you may also contact Asus directly. When bringing your laptop into Futureshop, you will need the power adapter and your original receipt. If you contact Asus directly you will need to ship the laptop to the nearest Asus repair depot. It will be diagnosed, repaired and sent back to you.You can also find an Asus Authorized Service Provider online.
Cicero Desktop/Notebook
These are serviced and repaired in store. Future Shop technicians will diagnose and order parts from Cicero in order to repair your computer. Bring it to your nearest Future Shop.
Dell Desktop/Notebook Bought From Futureshop
These are serviced and repaired in store. Future Shop technicians will diagnose and order parts from Dell in order to repair your computer. Bring it to your nearest Future Shop.
Dell Desktop/Notebook Bought From Dell
Futureshop cannot service these under warranty. Contact Dell for any warranty work.
Gateway Desktop
These are serviced and repaired in store. Future Shop technicians will diagnose and order parts from Gateway in order to repair your computer. Bring it to your nearest Future Shop.
Gateway Notebook
The repair for these are facilitated by the store. If there is a minor issue (software issues usually) then the unit will be repaired in store, for major issues it will be sent to the nearest depot for repair.
HP/Compaq Desktop
These are serviced and repaired in store. Future Shop technicians will diagnose and order parts from HP in order to repair your computer. Bring it to your nearest Future Shop. HP/Compaq Notebook The repair for these are facilitated by the store. If there is a minor issue (software issues usually) then the unit will be repaired in store, for major issues it will be sent to the nearest HP depot for repair. (Note: At my store all laptops were simply sent to the depot for repair without diagnostics.) It is recommended that you simply go through HP directly. It will be much faster. You can contact them at 1-800-HPINVENT.
MSI
Futureshop can facilitate these repairs for you or you may also contact MSI directly. When bringing your laptop into Futureshop, you will need the power adapter and your original receipt. If you contact MSI directly you will need to ship the laptop to the nearest MSI repair depot. It will be diagnosed, repaired and sent back to you. MSI has a specific process that needs to be followed, you can find the details on their support site.
Sony VAIO Desktop
These are serviced and repaired in store. Future Shop technicians will diagnose and order parts from Sony in order to repair your computer. Bring it to your nearest Future Shop.
Sony VAIO Notebook
Futureshop can facilitate these repairs for you or you may also contact Sony directly. When bringing your laptop into Futureshop, you will need the power adapter and your original receipt. If you contact Sony directly you will need to ship the laptop to the nearest Sony repair depot. It will be diagnosed, repaired and sent back to you. You need to create a ticket by calling Sony at 1-877-899-7669.
Toshiba Notebook
Some Futureshop locations are 'Toshiba Certified' and may repair these on-site. If you cannot find an authorized store near you, they can ship it to Toshiba for you, or you can contact Toshiba about repairing your laptop. To find a Toshiba Service Center near you, call this number: 1-800-663-0378 or use their online tool.
What do I do if I have the Product Service Plan? (PSP)
Once the one year manufacturer warranty is expired you can bring your computer to the nearest Future Shop for repairs under the Product Service Plan. The manufacturer's warranty will cover repairs during the first year.
In Canada
Bring your computer into the nearest Future Shop. They will be able to diagnose and order parts for your unit. Laptops may need to be sent out to the local repair depot for repair. If you are not near a Futureshop and still in Canada, call 1-800-663-2275 to setup alternate arrangements.
International
Call this number: 1-800-663-2275 (United States) or 613-634-4643 (Other then US). They will direct you to the nearest repair depot.
What is the process when I bring my computer to Future Shop?
The computer will be signed in. The technician will fill out a sheet with you and then ask you to sign it. Please read this sheet carefully as it lets Future Shop off the hook for: theft and data loss. You will be given a pickup receipt. The computer will then be put into the repair queue behind the computers that had been signed in ahead of yours. It will sit there until a technician gets through the computers ahead of it. You will be called once diagnostics are done and then once more when the repair is complete. When you come to the store to pickup your computer make sure that you bring your pickup receipt.
Things to remember
Diagnostics are covered under warranty. The only time diagnostics may be charged is if there is no fault found on your computer that is covered by the warranty, and you refuse the quote they offer you to repair it.Make sure to backup your data. It will most likely be wiped if your computer needs to be sent to a repair depot. Don't forget that the paper you're signing is giving Future Shop permission to wipe the whole machine.
The standard "Diagnostics Time" is two days. If you don't get a call by this time(or the time they quote you when you drop off the computer) don't hesitate to call the store and ask why you haven't received a call.Don't hesitate to express your displeasure at something to a manager. They will usually try to make things right.
