Mass Effect 2 pre-order bonus?
Does future shop offer the pre-order bonus for mass effect 2 (collector's edition and/or regular edition) like all the other stores ((competitor), (competitor), etc.)? There is no mention of it on the product page.

Re: Mass Effect 2 pre-order bonus?

Hi and thanks for the post!

The one thing I have noticed with Futureshop's website is that it doesn't always advertise these types of things until shortly before the release.  I know I didn't see the XBox MW2 console on the FS website until a couple of weeks before the release, even though I had heard about it a few weeks prior to that.

Generally though, you won't see a store give you the collector's edition of a game for the regular edition's price if you pre-order.  You usually get a bonus or exclusive access to certain content that others won't get.  Keep your eyes peeled.  There's still time for something like that to happen.

Juice, I think he was just referring to the pre-order bonus, not the pricing.

I am unaware of such a bonus as of yet for ME2 however, try calling your local Futureshop and inquire.

Re: Mass Effect 2 pre-order bonus?

I too am interested in knowing this.  I pre-ordered regardless (had a giftcard), but I've notice it doesn't state at all if preorder codes are given with online pre-orders.  I called customer service, and they seemed a little confused over the Pre-Order "In-Game Item Code" concept.    I assume it generally doesn't come up often.

However, I see people on the forums asking this question for other games, but not getting any answers.  Someone must have purchased a preorder online for a game with a Promotional code for ingame content at some point?

Cheers

Re: Mass Effect 2 pre-order bonus?

Since my copy arrived today, and it would be nice for posterity on the forum:

ME2 does not come with a pre-order bonus when ordering from FS.  You recieve only the game, and the Cerberus Network code (which is not a pre order bonus - this is a one time code which will come with ALL copies of the game [an attempt to encourage new purchases instead of used?]).

If FS is offering a Pre-Order code for something like the Inferno or Terminus Armours; I did not get it nor do I see it anywhere in the packaging.

Since FS didn't participate in the pre-order code program, all I can suggest is going to an auction site and seeing if you feel like buying it separately (don't, its not work the $!5 they are asking for).

Cheers!

That actually is exactly the reason that code is there. The problem with used game sales that publishers and developers have is that NONE of the money from it goes to them, only sales of new copies.

A slight correction to your wording, the Cerberus Network comes with every NEW copy of the game. If you buy a used copy and the code has not been used, you're in luck, but that is not likely the case.

Now, if you're interested in the content the Cerberus Network offers (currently Zaeed [an acquirable teammate in the game], another major mission [the name of which would completely spoil the beginning of the game], and a Cerberus set of Armour and Weapon), then if you don't have a code, you'll be forced to fork out about $15 in order to acquire it.

That means, in order for the sale of a used copy of ME2 to be viable to you, you'd have to get it for at least $15 off the regular price, and a price like that doesn't come along for the first 6 months of the lifecycle of the game, which is when the VAST majority of the sales come.

Also, this way, if you do spend those $15 on the Cerberus Network, EA and Bioware do get a large portion of that sale, so they're still getting some money back from selling a used copy.
