Asus Transformer Prime User Experience

So...  we finally get the Asus Transformer Prime (for those that pre-ordered it at least)

Mine came in yesterday.

Wondering what everybody thinks of the overall user experience.

funny thing is, my wife ordered this for me as a present and I've been anticipating it for so long, especially with all those delays...  but now that I have it, I'm a bit disappointed at the overall experience.

There are a ton of apps and games on the android market that are not available for this device.  (basically anything from Gameloft is listed as incompatible and then some..  so for those of you who want to see something like Modern Combat, NFL Pro blaze on the tablet or Destroy gunners, etc... no such luck!  There are 2 or three games on the tegra Zone, but that's about it)  And to top it off, the interface is laggy and choppy.  The bloody device has 5 cores and 1gb ram, yet when I turned it on and scrolled through the home screens (only with the updates installed, so there shouldn't be anything running in the background) the screen transitions were choppy.

I should probably wait until the Asus pushes the new OS (ICS) before I pass judgement, but so far, a bit disappointed.  I'd like to know how everybody else is faring.  Wondering if I'm the only one that feels this way...  maybe my expectations were too high.

Re: Asus Transformer Prime User Experience

I'm suppose to get mine tomorrow...  I'll share my experience after.

How's your wifi and GPS signal?  Any problems on that end?

Thanks for sharing!

Don't think you'll have an issue selling it for retail price right now if you want to off load it. ICS was relased last night... did you update?

Got mine from (competitor) Computers in Ottawa. I got tired of waiting for in the future shop. I think it is incredible 2 firmware updates and a camera update as well as ICE Cream install. I have had 0 problems with it so far other than trying to get a Champagne keyboard which is mission impossible. Found tons of games on the Android Market. I give it a 5 out of 5.

Actually I just returned mine this week.  I bought it online Jan 17 and got it on 19th. I was really sad to return it but there was one super-issue for me that I could find no resolution.

I received it with Android 3 pre-installed and from the first day the screen worked 100% but the bottom system bar would be locked up upon each start-up and sometimes at random during use.

OK, so I was patient thinking this is just a software glitch and upgraded the tablet to ICS Android 4.  Upgrade went 100% smoothly, however the annoying lock-up was still happening.  Everytime you press power the system buttons would be locked up.  After a couple of days I figured out a back door way to unlock it, had to swipe my finger from lower left corner across the screen and it starts to work for a while.

Anyway with my self, wife and two kids sharing the tablet, it was too much annoyance to deal with.  I immediately sent email to Asus support and no response after a week.  I searched every forum, the entire internet and no one else reported this issue.

So we decided, until they have stock in the store we can try out first, we would return the tablet before 14 days and wait for perhaps another Tegra 3 tablet or iPAD3.

Was really a shame as the rest of the tablet worked awesome and the screen was outstanding.

Re: Asus Transformer Prime User Experience

UPDATE: Went to Futureshop yesterday as they had a fresh supply of tablets.  I mentioned my past issue with the tablet to the salesman.  Said he has sold many Primes and no one has ever mentioned my issue.

Anyway I decided to try another unit and return it if doesn't work.  I am pleased to say that the new one works 100% perfectly.  I did have a single bad unit before and the new one works flawlessly.
