iPad does not have built-in printing capabilities. There are apps that will function as an intermediate layer which will perform printing via your PC/MAC, but as of this moment iPad itself cannot print on its own. (This may change in future iOS releases.)

Hi there,
If you are looking for a solution to print from your Ipad you might want to look into HP's new Eprint technology available on the HP PhotoSmart eAiO. Eprint gives you the capability to print the majority of popular formats such as Office documents, Photos, Static web pages, emails, Adobe files from any web enabled device. The printer itself is assigned an email address and printing is as simple as emailing what you want to print to the address. No drivers or software are needed and you can print from anywhere as long as your Eprint enabled machine is connected to the internet.
See for yourself here and here.

iOS 4.2 (being released in November) will have built-in wireless printing. The exact technical details have not been released though (ie. which devices are supported, etc.)

Ipad is only able to print to the new HP (so far) new "E" series wireless printers. How convenient for HP to manage to get Apple convinced this is a wonderful thing to do. If you want to print from an Ipad you need to throw out your old printer and go buy a new HP unit and there is a list of only a very few that are supported. Bend over folks....!!!
If you have an older printer connected via Ethernet to a router.... Ipad can't see it.
If you have a bluetooth printer... Ipad can't see it.
There are Apps in the Itunes App store which make all kinds of statements about being a solution but they only work with HP's new "E" series airprint compatible printers.
Another stupid idea from Apple.
