New iPad3 Charge Tip

Even if it says 100%.... consider leaving it for an additional hour....

This sounds like what they did the iPhone a few years ago. If the signal was weak, they just added an additional bar to the display to make it look like the phone was working better.

If i'm not mistaken, you can do this for all electronics with rechargeable batteries

Perhaps.... but the latest word is Apple needs to fix the indicator.

iPad users are also being asked to NOT charge the device past the 100% or risk damaging the battery.  Huh?  I guess we need kitchen timers to charge our iPad's overnight....

I just leave it on the charger all the time and when I need it to be portable I take it off, is this wrong?

Re: New iPad3 Charge Tip

How often do you take it off?

  • If you take it off once a week?  It may not be good for the battery?  Unlike laptops, it costs a lot of money to change the iPad battery.  It may be simplier to get a new iPad a year down the road.
  • I recommend running the battery down to something like 20% or so before charging it back it up to 100% overnight.  It's healthy to cycle the battery down regularly.  My laptop batteries are still pretty good after 3 or 4 years.
  • Personally, I use a kitchen timer to charge up my devices (laptops, cellphones, tablets) overnight.  My devices are charged between 11pm and 6am.  Power is severed the rest of the day.
