I think you are asking about the models that offer wifi only vs wifi with 4g LTE...
- wifi only is cheaper and requires you need to be near a wifi connection (ie home, work, coffee shop, or restaurant) to have the internet.
- 4g models have cellular capabilities so in addition to wifi locations, you can use the tablet where you have a cell connection. Eg on a bus or car.
Only 5% of purchases are the 4g models.
- you need to think about monthly data charges.
- you need to think about the increased cost
- many of us have phones that can be wifi hotspots
- you can also purchase mobile hotspots which are more flexible, especially for travellers.
Apple has taken mobile computing to a whole new level. Beyond its slim, fit-easily-into-any-bag design, the new iPad with Wi-Fi comes loaded with features such as a Retina display, 5MP iSight camera that shoots 1080p HD video, and the power to connect to everything you need. And with apps for iLife and iWork now for the iPad, there isn't anything you can't do on the go.

Get high-speed wireless internet access anywhere you go!! The Zoom We3G Embedded Hotspot Router is the ideal way to connect portable Wi-Fi compatible devices to the high-speed cellular data network. Connect up to 5 WIFI compatible devices to this modem, to share your high speed 3G Internet connection.

"Only 5% of purchases are the 4g models."
Hmmm... I am not certain about this statistics; everyone at work who got the new iPad, got the 4G model. They were running speedtest app on them, and the speed was better than what I received from my home cable Internet.

4G sales are not quite 50%....
Here's another stat that states 1 in 10.

The iPad has only been out for a month. As people max out their data caps and see their monthly data charges.... you might see less people opting for the more expensive 4G models.
Australia already has a lawsuit as they discovered none of the 4G models work in their country because of different LTE standards. http://www.idownloadblog.com/2012/03/27/australian
